The Starving Squad by JhingBautista

Genre: Romance, Chicklit, Humor, Adventure, Friendships, General Fiction

Di ko alam ba't starving squad eh puro nga sila lamon... (joke lang po hehe)

These stories made me realize that I am not missing on anything right now. I am still young. I need to grow and choose what I love to do first because everything will come after. Love shouldn't be rushed.

They also reminded me that no matter how much we love the person, we deserved to be pursued the right way. That we shouldn't settle for less.

#1: The Second Time Around (Completed)

Fresia wanted to love Richard. She tried for three years, pero walang nangyari. She thought that she wasn't capable of love because she wasn't shown love, growing up. Ang ate niya ang magaling. Ang ate niya ang importante. Ang ate niya ang mas mahal. When they lost Fiona, mas lalong lumayo ang loob ng mga magulang niya sa kanya.

She couldn't be like Fiona. She couldn't even love Richard, na mas mahal pa ng mga magulang niya sa kanya. For a long time, she believed that there's something wrong with her... until she met Bullet, the hot interior designer that she mistook for a stripper.

But with Bullet's dark past clouding their present, can they have a future together?

Review: Of course, slow burn! The characters are both damaged inside, so there's a process of realizations and healings. Sometimes, I didn't know I'll need it.

Someone who'd cook for you and treat your friends well huhuh. And a guy that understands you can't be swayed easily huhuh. Siguro nga I'm a bit angry like her and I push love when it's there, kaya ako nakakarelate ng todo lol.

Grabe, this made me realize that patience is really attractive. Love is when someone can handle you in worst. May mga Kapampangan words haha! My heart is full.

#2: Write Me A Heartache

Bookworm and introvert are probably two words that best describe Aika. She's a half-Japanese, half-Filipino writer who likes to watch Korean drama series. Her dream in life is to find a perfect guy, the epitome of all the ideal guys she's ever written and read.

But life gave her the opposite, Mickey. He's nothing like the guy of her dreams. Annoying her seems to be his life's purpose and she just couldn't get rid of him.

Thoughts: Lezgo, Aika! I try to find these qualities in men, to which I often get disappointed. So I end up with failed relationships.

Napaka-pafall ni Mickey. Why all the efforts? Sa lahat ng ayoko, yung taong inconsistent. Ganun yung character ni Mickey, nakaka-frustrate. Pero at the same time, it's what makes him real?

Pero at the end of the day, bakit sometimes, even though they fall short of our expectations, it's them who we want?

It's ironic that Aika is a romance writer, but she experienced how love is so hard to figure out.

Pero shet.. isang album na puro song cover as confession?! 😭 luh

#3: The Way to His Heart

Mona likes Felix. Mona has liked Felix ever since she met him. She knew that he's way out of her league, but she still took a chance. Pero kahit minamadali na ng mga magulang at may taning na ang mga obaryo niya, she still didn't settle down because she wants to be with someone that she loves.

At first, I was hesitating to read it kase based on the previous books, Mona and Felix are technically cheating. Buti na lang that wasn't the case. Felix, knowing na gusto siya ni Mona, clearly knows that he has the upperhand and takes advantage of it. And Mona was taking steps and compromising things to reach the way to his heart. Out of the girls, si Mona ang pinaka-marupok.

This is the first time na parang nagkaroon ako ng insight kung pano maging stepmom. Also, I find it ironic na kahit si Brandi ang mapang-alaska sa kaniya, ito pa rin ang sinasabihan niya ng mga hinanakit. Mona knew deep inside that she needed wake up calls and Brandi, as always, was exactly there to do the job. I love the B's tandem who are there to pick Mona up everytime.

#4: No Boyfriend, No Problem - ongoing

"Guys are overrated."

It's not that she hates guys, it's just she thinks she doesn't need them. In her friends' opinions, Brandi is the most beautiful among the four members of The Starving Squad (mga babaeng palaging gutom), but she's the most unfortunate when it comes to relationships.

She has vowed to never get swept off her feet and to never fall in love. But when the right man comes along, will she reconsider?

will post my review once it's done
