Abir

I woke up to the loud ringing of my alarm. It was 6:00 am. I am a morning person and didn't have trouble waking up early. Mom says that I had got it from my father. She was fast asleep now. I briskly walked into the kitchen, grabbed a coffee and made my way towards the gym.

When I returned, my mother was up and had started making breakfast. As I sat for breakfast, I heard her sigh.

"For how long are you going to stay alone, Abi? You should find a girl to look after you and the house. ", she said.

"You know, she doesn't have to stay in the house and I'm not really interested in anyone right now." I replied.

Also, I wanted to be there for my mother when she gets older. I didn't want to leave her on her own.

"But, Abi, you are already 35 ..." she started.

"Please mom, I can't be late for my first day of work. This branch is not like the one I was working in when we were in Lucknow. I probably will have more work here." I interrupted.

I finished my breakfast, threw on my bag, rushed out and started my car. I looked around as I rode. It was nothing like Lucknow. First off, there was smoke. Lots and lots of smoke wherever the traffic stopped, which was almost everywhere.

When I finally reached the company, I was very nervous. I stopped near the security to show my ID. I started my car again to make my way in. That's when I heard the sound and I knew I was in trouble. I knew what I'd done even before I saw it. An image of the scratched side of a driver's door greeted my eyes as I turned. It wasn't badly scratched but still noticeable. I gulped in fear as I saw a young lady step out of the black Audi RS6.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to. I'll even pay...", I started.

"It's fine."She cut me off. She took one good look at the scratch and asked as she got back in. "First day?" I nodded.

"Just don't scratch another car." She smiled to herself as she drove off.

I parked my car and warily went over to the reception and gave my name."I'm Abir Jha, I was recently transferred from Lucknow to Delhi as a manager."

I was directed to the second floor. I sighed as I sat behind my desk and stared at the gleaming letters that held my name.
"What a great way to start my first day of work."I thought.
