you were currently pacing in the school bathroom, trying to think of a way to approach jinyoung. you had successfully avoided him the whole day, but you knew the job had to be done.

"fuck it, let's just wing it."

you took out your phone, texting jinyoung to meet you outside by the bleachers. it was a nice day out, with a gentle breeze and chirping birds.

you sat on the cold metal, watching couples walk around the field together. your chest ached, watching the couples as they acted lovey dovey with each other. ever since youngjae, who was your first boyfriend and the man who took your virginity, you hadn't felt that feeling of being loved and cherished in a long time.

you banished the thoughts of him away, as they weren't exactly happy thoughts. he was no longer on the face of earth, and nothing was going to bring him back.

"hey, y/n," a voice interrupted your thoughts. you turned your head to see jinyoung waving at you with one hand, and the other in his jacket pocket. he took a seat next to you.

"what did you want to talk about?" he asked, although the look on his face told you that he already knew what you were gonna say.

"this is definitely expected, but someone has to actually say it, and that's what i'm doing," you said, "let's break up."

jinyoung only nodded, looking down at his feet. not liking the awkward silence, you turned your body to his, holding out your hand.

"let's not hate each other, and continue with our lives, okay? friends?"

he glanced at your hand, and took his hand out of his pocket to shake it.

"i'm really sorry, y/n. i hope you find someone who will treat you right, just like he did," jinyoung said, implying the "he" as youngjae himself.

you grimly nodded, forcing a smile on your face. jinyoung stood up, and left, heading back into the school building. you stayed sitting on the bench, trying to fight back the tears forming.

you didn't want to admit it, but jinyoung was an attempt for you to escape from reality. after everything that happened, you thought he could fix your brokenness, but he really didn't do much.

you and jinyoung's relationship wasn't one people would fawn over. it was more like two friends going under the "dating" label. two close friends. but things changed as the months bored on.

the bell rang in the faint distance, and you noticed the field was almost empty of people, save for a couple aggressively making out under the giant tree. you got up, and headed back into the building.

-

lunch was awkward. the news spilled that irene and jinyoung had been seeing each other, and you were completely fine with it. you didn't know what to label you and jaebum, since the two of you never talked about being in a relationship.

it pained your heart a bit to see irene and jinyoung cuddling together, but you pushed the pain away and focused on your lunch.

lunch soon ended, and then eventually all classes did as well. exiting the school building, you made your way to the public bus stop, waiting for your ride home. you popped in your earbuds, listening to a random song that came on shuffle.

the empty seat next you was soon occupied by someone, the familiar boots of the person next to your sneakers. you glanced up to see jaebum, his hair matted down from the humidity of the warm air.

for a moment, the two of you sat in silence next to each other. then, jaebum laced his hand in yours. using your free hand, you removed the earbuds from your ears, and looked at him with questioning eyes.

"let's go on a date, y/n."
