I Quit

His Haunted Stormy Grey Eyes

Remus Lupin stood in front of Number 12, Grimmauld Place, wondering if he should tell Sirius what he just did. Remus knew exactly what Sirius would say.

"Why would you do that?!! Stupid Snivillous, telling those Slytherins. And you're not very smart either, Remus Lupin-you just gave up a job, one of the only ones that would take you-for me? Honestly, you're supposed to be the smart one."

Remus grinned and decided that he could live with it. So long as Sirius was there, alive, with him, he could always live with it.

Sirius opened up the door at the second knock. He had changed into some better clothes instead of the horrible rags he had worn in Azkaban. He seemed to have taken a shower and his hair was no longer filthy ropes. It hung freely around his shoulders, looking just as soft as it had in school.

"Remus!" Sirius cried, smiling and pulling Remus into the house and into a bone-crushing hug. "I can't tell you how happy I am to be out of there."

"Where?" Remus asked without thinking. He knew where, of course he knew where. "Never mind, don't answer that."

Sirius never stopped grinning. "Doesn't matter-why are you here? I happen to know there are still a few weeks left at Hogwarts."

"I-I quit." Remus said after a moments hesitation.

Sirius' grin dropped at once. "What? Why?!!"

"Severus let slip that I was a werewolf to all the Slytherins." Remus said, his smile somewhat forced.

"Stupid Snivellous-but Remus, I may have been-er-gone, for a few years, but I'm not an idiot. You wouldn't quit for that-" Suddenly Sirius stared at Remus in horror. "It's because of me, isn't it? When you figured it out-"

"It wasn't your fault. I just-I had to, Sirius. Can we put this behind us please?"

"No. You shouldn't have done that! Remus John Lupin, how could you leave the one place you always wanted to work at-for me? It's not like I can get a job with you anywhere. I'm  a little stuck here." Sirius said, his eyes showing the exasperation he felt toward Remus' choice and the slightly haunted look Azkaban had given them.

It broke Remus' heart to see that haunted look in his beautiful stormy grey eyes.

"Then I'll be stuck here with you." Remus whispered.

The feeling of kissing Sirius hadn't been forgotten by Remus, and it wasn't going to be any day soon.
