Chapter 4
________
† Gabrielle's POV †
'Gabby!' A voice shouted, shaking me by the shoulders.
'Ugh,' I groan and pulled the duvet over my head. Suddenly, the covers were yanked off of me.
'Gabs, I swear you get up this second or cold water going to be running down your face.' The voice, which I recognised to be Louis' shouted again.
I have been unfortunate enough to have experienced that, which is why I got up. Slowly.
'C'mon, Gabby! It's the first day of school, I'm sure you've got some girl stuff to do, like straighten your hair.'
Oh no! I looked down at my hair, which was all curly at the ends. I could hear Louis chuckle as I ran to the bathroom.
I grabbed Mrs Grayley's straighteners and plugged them in, before going to brush my teeth and apply my make-up.
After I left the bathroom, I found Louis standing outside, dying to pee.
'I swear, what do you girls do in there!' Louis mumbled as he sped in there.
Chuckling, I went to the drawer and looked through the clothes I had with me. After some pondering I picked out a maroon button up shirt and navy pants that got skinny as they went down, to show of my legs. Even if I say so myself, they're not that bad. I was actually quite excited with what I came up with as this'll look really good with my new converse. They had an American flag all over it, but instead of red, they were maroon. To finish it off, I grabbed my favourite beanie with red stars and stripes.
After I was finished, I went downstairs to be greeted with a not pretty picture of Louis stuffing himself with Weetabix. His mum made sure we ate healthy cereal, without too much sugar, but we still added some sugar, when she wasn't looking.
*
'Alright, good luck kids!' Mrs Grayley said, giving us a warm smile, before adding, 'And don't get in trouble on the first day!'
We laughed at that. Big chance of that ever happening. We were nerds. Trouble and us, just doesn't mix.
As we waited for the bus, I noticed Louis starring at me.
'What? Have I got something on my face?' I asked self-conscious. I spent like half an hour applying my make-up to perfection.
'No, no! I was just wondering...' He said as a smirk appeared on his face. 'Do you remember what I'm going to do today?'
Oh no! I was hoping he'd forget about that. But obviously my hopes have been ignored as he obviously didn't.
'Huh. What are you on about?' I asked. Maybe if I play innocent he'll think it was a dream.
'Don't act dumb,' He smiled evilly at me.
'Go get lost,' I attempted to punch his arm, I swear I moved really fast, but he moved it away, just before my fist touched his arm. I starred at him. Mouth open and all.
'Predictable,' He laughed at me, gently closing my mouth.
'No I'm not!' At that moment the bus pulled up and we got in.
Apart from a word here and there, we were quiet on the way to school. I mean it was the first day of the last year! We were anxious to go see our friends and enjoy the wonders year 11 offers us. Suddenly, the school bus pulled up in front of our school. Our school has been rebuilt a year ago, so it didn't look that bad, apart from a few grafittis here and there. Actually, I think grafitti can be quite pretty sometimes, if it's done artistically and it's not just some kind of scribble. The teachers hate grafitti though. I swear they have no imagination.
'Gabrielle!' I heard a voice. A voice I would have recognised a billion years from now. It was my amazingly brilliant and old best friend, Jade.
You'd probably be thinking that Louis is my older best friend, but actually he isn't. Closer, yes, but no way is he older, as at first me and Lou used to hate each other. You guys know how it was at that age - girls hate boys and the other way around. However we couldn't just ignore each other as our mums were too close. We had to develop an emotion. And guess what that was. Hate. Why, I don't know. So for about 8 years we hated each other. We used to spend all our time pranking each other instead of bonding. I'm telling you, it wasn't pretty. Then, somehow at the end of year 4, we bonded. I think that was after Louis' dad left that I felt sorry for him and started treating him better. We started sharing everything.
But Jade... We've known each other since nursery when she came with her mum and dad to England from New York. Yes, she was born and lived in Manhattan for 3 years, before her dad got a job transfer and she moved here. We had a connection from the moment we layed eyes on each other. And we knew we would be great friends.
Anyway, I turned around and the bleach blond girl leaped into my arms. It was one of those slow motion moments of the movie where the girlfriend runs and and her boyfriend meets her half way, then they hug and kiss because he just saved the universe yet again. But in my case it was me and by best friend which I haven't seen in 3 months. Yup my life is pretty messed up.
'Jade!' I screamed back. I wasn't looking, but I knew Louis is probably cringing right now. He hated attention.
We started babbling on about how we missed each other and how we spent our holidays. Of course her holiday was more exciting than mine. I could tell Lou was probably feeling excluded, so I turned her around.
'Remember him?' I whispered in her ear and she giggled and jumped on Lou, who laughed and ruffled her just-straightened hair. I could tell she was annoyed, but before they got into an argument I grabbed both of them and started pulling them towards the building. The butterflies in my stomach were so bad now. Cold sweat was running down my back. This was the last first day ever. Better make the most of it.
