Alright everyone, this is my first story on here. Hopefully it doesn't suck too bad. The presidential election was getting to me and it finally turned into a story in my head. Now that the election is over, I'm going to be writing this story out. Please be sure to vote and fan and comment.
Callie White walked into her Intro to Political Science class at George Washington University and spotted her best friend Bailey sitting near the front. Callie and Bailey had been inseparable for he past four years. If they weren’t at Callie’s house, they were at Bailey’s. They both moved to Washington DC four years ago when their fathers took office. Yeah- Callie’s father is the president of the United States, and Bailey’s father is his Vice President.
They knew they were going to be the new kids in town, so they asked their parents to enroll them in school together as they started high school, so they would at least know one other person. Their parents obliged without question.
“Hey, Girl,” Callie said as she sat down next to Bailey.
“Hey,” Bailey said looking up. “Did you lose the guard dogs?”
Callie huffed and nodded toward the door where she knew there were two uniformed men in tuxes, dark sunglasses, and ear pieces to communicate stationed right outside the door waiting for Callie’s class to end. Callie and Bailey knew their parents were only trying to protect them by assigning them each two secret service men to follow them around, but they hated drawing more attention to themselves than necessary.
“Sucks,” Bailey said. “I ditched Mark and Don in the crowd in the Union Circle.
“Twenty bucks says Chris will have them here by the end of class.”
“Hmph. Don’t remind me.”
Just then, a middle-aged balding man walked in. Callie and Bailey knew he was a politician from Virginia. They recognized him from some of their father’ political events. “Hello class and welcome to Intro to Poli-Sci. We’re going to start out by calling role and going over the syllabus and you’ll be free until next class.” He shuffled through his folder and pulled out a pile of papers for everyone to start passing around.
Callie knew she would be at the end of the list with her last name being “White,” so she tuned him out and started to read over the syllabus.
“Callie White?” Callie raised her hand. “Bailey Zimmer?” She felt Bailey’s arm bush hers as she raised her hand. “Ah, I was wondering what was up with all the security around here.”
Callie felt her face heat up and she looked over and saw Bailey’s face was as red as hers was. “Be sure to tell your fathers I said hello and I’m looking forward to the rally next week.”
Callie and Bailey both nodded, “Yes, Sir.” Callie looked around and saw most of the students looked confused.
“Alright, everyone pull out the syllabus I passed around…”
Class continued without the professor calling Callie and Bailey out again. They got to leave about fifteen minutes early since it didn’t take the whole fifty-minute class period to go over the syllabus.
The girls learned there would be several projects that would be in groups and partners throughout the semester and they hoped the professor wouldn’t assign them, so they could work together.
The class packed up their things and walked out. Calling looked around and noticed a second door than the one she walked in at he beginning of class. “Come on, let’s go out that door.” She linked her arm through Bailey’s and led her towards the door.
Callie peeked through a small crack in the door and didn’t see the security around. They stealthily turned the corner, hopefully dodging their security. They were almost to the exit of the building when Bailey’s security man, Mark, was about to walk in the door.
“Shit,” she hissed. She spotted a staircase. She grabbed Bailey’s hand and all but dragged her up the stairs.
Once on the second floor of the building, Callie heard her cell phone ring. She fished it out of her American Flag tote bag she carried her books around in. She looked at the screen and showed it to Bailey- Chris.
“Don’t answer,” Bailey said.
“Okay, but you know Dad’s gonna call us,” Callie said as she pressed the decline button.
“Not thirty seconds later, their cell phones went off simultaneously. They looked at each other, down at their cell phones,, and grunted at the same time. They knew they couldn’t decline this call.
They both answered with the same “Hi, Daddy” greeting to their respective fathers.
“Hi Honey,” Callie heard her dad say. “How was class?”
They girls continued down the hall trying to find another exit away from their security.
“It was good, Daddy. Former Senator Lutz is our professor. He says hi and he’s looking forward to the rally next week.”
“Oh really? I’ll have to give him a call. I can’t have my baby girl failing out her freshman year, now can I?”
“Daddy, no! I can do my own work. How can I follow in your footsteps if I get a free pass and don’t learn anything?”
She heard her dad chuckle on the other end, “Okay honey, I won’t. Listen, I just got a call from Chris saying your class ended and you still haven’t come out the door he and Patrick left you at and you didn’t answer his call. I know you don’t like being followed around, but you have to keep them close by.”
“But Daddy, I’m not a baby. I can go to classes on my own. I don’t need a watch dog.”
“Honey, if I need a watch dog, you need a watch dog. I know you’re okay on your own, but please go back with the guys for a while. At least until the race is over. There are some crazies out there. I don’t need to be worrying about my baby girl.”
He always knew how to get her to feel guilty. “Ugh. Okay. Just until November. Then it’s over, right?”
“Right. I’ll see you when you get home. Good luck at school. Love you.”
“Love you too, Daddy.”
She looked over to Bailey and saw she had a pretty similar conversation with her dad. They turned around and started retreating towards the way they came. They turned the corner to head towards the stairs and literally ran headfirst into two rock hard chests. Callie could feel herself falling when she felt an arm around her waist right before she crashed to the ground. Bailey wasn’t as lucky.
“Shit, sorry about that. Wasn’t paying attention,” Callie heard a deep voice say near her ear.
She got stable on her feet and turned to help Bailey up.
“That’s alright.” She looked up and saw quite possibly the bluest eyes she had ever seen. They reminded her of her family’s trip to Virginia Beach over the summer and the deep blue color of the ocean.
“Sorry, but we have to go,” Bailey said. She grabbed her friend’s hand and started descending the stairs.
At the bottom of the stairs she saw Chris, Patrick, Mark, and Don. Callie gulped and headed towards the guys.
“Miss White,” Chris and Patrick said.
“Miss Zimmer,” Mark and Don said.
They both said their hellos. “You girls ready to go home?” Chris asked.
Callie nodded and said, “We’re both going to my house, so can you let Bailey’s driver know he can pick her up there at 9?”
“Yes ma’am,” Mark said pulling out his cell phone.
They all headed toward the front of the building and got into the awaiting car to go home.
