He was in the middle of the battlefield, bullets flying back and forth. It was a battle for the Second World War, the one that Italy hoped would be the last for now. He pressed himself to the ground so as to avoid any bullets. He looked from side to side hoping to find Germany, but no one was nearby. Eventually, the gunfire slows, so Italy raises his head to look around. Not a moment afterwards, a bullet shot right through his skull.

He crumbled and crashed to the floor, seeing Germany run up to him, yelling at the nation to get up. For some reason he looked extremely sad and concerned, but Italy was only confused. He had always called me useless in wars, why wouldn’t he be happy that he was finally no longer a problem?

Nothing else mattered but Germany’s voice though, as he finally felt the pain of the bullet and the drifting consciousness. “Italy, hold on, I’m calling for Japan to help you! Just hold on Italy!” Those words were very muffled and blurry, but Italy heard them nonetheless. He was aware of the increasing difficulty to keep his eyes open, and though he wanted nothing more than to close them, he just couldn’t.

He softly looked up at Germany, and internally gasped as he heard one last thing before he couldn’t hear anything. “Ich Leibe Dich, Feliciano.” The words choked him and relieved him. He had to hold onto those last words and never let them go! He had to fight for his life!

It was all futile though, as Italy realized that his eyes were barely open anymore and that he couldn’t hear anything nor see anything. Internally, all he could see was the face of Germany and those four words repeated. He knew he was going to be seeing his first love soon, that he would finally be reunited, but he couldn’t leave Germany without telling him something. Though Holy Rome had been his first love, Germany was his second, and now his last. He knew he couldn’t stay alive any longer, as now he could see the face of Holy Rome and his welcoming hand, and had lost the words, but he had to say one last thing before he faded away and died.

“Te amo, Ludwig.”
