THE SANDLOT !
CHAPTER FOUR

an... inter-squad game?

katsu set his tray down, silverware clanging together at the sudden movement. plopping onto the empty seat, he let out a long weary sigh. day-long training was the usual ordeal. but now that school started a few weeks ago, homework has been added to his already full platter. it was a torturous routine that he has to yet get accustomed to. there was now less than three months till the summer tournament and there were four slots open for the first string. it seemed like everyone was on the same page, faces grim as they ate their dinner. the looming atmosphere in the cafeteria was nearly suffocating.

picking up his chopsticks and staring down at his full bowl of rice, he thought to himself. at least i can now eat without the urge of throwing up.

"hey, you didn't show up this morning!" sawamura's boisterous voice came from his right, and the blonde could only watch as he slammed his tray beside his. the brunet was seemingly unaware of how close he was to spilling his food. "i slept in." katsu replied sheepishly. "WAHAHA!" the two of them had grown closer ever since katsu was literally body slammed into. after that disastrous morning, they've been running and training together. katsu thought it was safe to say they were in the early stage of becoming best friends. hopefully.

sawamura began to eat, quickly shoveling rice into his mouth. after a few days of fretting over his eating habits, he came to the conclusion that sawamura wasn't one to choke on his food. katsu paced himself as he ate, humming under his breath as he tried his best to enjoy the plain rice. "second bowl please!"

"what's with you? you're eating a ton!" sawamura swiveled around in his seat to glare at the second-year catcher, cheeks full like a chipmunk. "you were puking all over the place on your first day...." miyuki teases as he takes the empty spot beside the brunet, amber eyes flicking towards katsu for a brief second. "it's nice that kids grow up quickly, huh?" after swallowing his mouthful of food, sawamura let out a yell. "shut up!" the second year merely snickers at the affronted reply. looking around with curious eyes, sawamura purses his lips. "everyone's pretty quiet.... did something happen?"

oh. that's right. the brunet was still unable to join the other first years during practice. which meant he had no idea of what was going to happen tomorrow. "we're having a game tomorrow." katsu replies as he finally starts on his third bowl. "HUH?!" sawamura grabbed onto the collar of his loose t-shirt, using his ungodly strength to yank him forward. he does his best to avoid spilling his food. "WHY DIDN'T I HEAR ABOUT THIS? DO I GET TO PLAY?!" cringing away from the deafening yells directed right by his ear, he pushed away from the brunet.

"hey... is it okay if i sit here?" the three of them startle at the sudden voice, the softness of it causing sawamura's throttling to cease. katsu turns his head to face the unfamiliar boy. he was tall, with fair skin and dark as night hair. not the mention his eyes were a deep blue, unlike his own steel grey. he was unfairly pretty. "excuse me." katsu sweatdrops when sawamura is pushed aside by the other, placing his hands on his shoulders to prevent him from toppling over. "WHY ARE YOU SITTING HERE? THERE'S PLENTY OF SPACE OVER THERE!"
