Thomas picked me up from Sarah's house early the next morning. He was his usual quiet self as he dropped me off at home before going to work.
I decided to go bed, I was still tired from the previous night and although I had one drink my body was still getting used to the foreign liquid in my system.
I woke up a little later before cleaning up and preparing lunch my husband came shortly after I had finished dishing up. We sat in our usual silence as we ate but I couldn't help but to notice that his eyes were focused on me. It made me feel uncomfortable.
"How was it?". I nearly jumped out of my skin as I didn't expect him to speak plus the tone of his voice was ... unusual.
"Huh". I was so lost in my thoughts I didn't even know what he was talking about.
"The sleep over, how was it". His eyes, there was something behind his eyes. I couldn't point it out but the look he gave me made me want to be as far away as possible from him.
Perhaps he knew
No, how would he find out I think my concious was playing mind games with me. It was all in my head.
"Good,it was good thanks". I replied and he nodded before we went back to eating.
"What games did you play?". He asked all of a sudden catching me off guard.
"Uhh umm card games but we talk mostly and paint our nails". I said showing him my nails Sarah's friend had painted for our outing. He nodded.
"Could you prepare dinner for two extra people. My mother and brother are coming over". I said, I didn't even know he had a brother that's how little I knew my husband the man was an a enigma.
"Oh I didn't know you have a brother". I replied.
"Andre, he's two years younger than me. A surgeon". He said with a chuckle though he didn't sound one bit amused.
"Your father not come?". I asked.
"He's dead". He cut out bluntly.
"Oh I'm sorry". I said and he shook his head.
"Don't be". He replied, I didn't know what that was supposed to mean. He finished his lunch getting up to leave as I began cleaning up. He suddenly gently grabbed my arm turning me around and put his lips on mine, his hands digging into my waist. I was out of breath by the time he pulled away, the was something in that kiss that was different from the others, something that sent tingles down my spine.
Passion.
That's what it was, what all the other kisses lacked, what our "love making" lacked.
"I'll see you later". He said before walking away leaving me absolutely stunned.
I had decided to put on something nice since I would be meeting his family for the first time. A spaghetti strap red dress that Sarah had picked out when we went shopping, I did my hair in an updo hairstyle, put on a bit of make up and red lipstick to match my dress which I paired with a pair of strap heels Thomas had bought for me in Ethiopia.
I was bringing the food into the dining room when I heard the door open followed by footsteps and a feminine voice.
"Out of all the things you've done I can't believe you didn't tell me you have a wife". A woman who I assumed was his mother said.
"Ma please not now". My husband's annoyed voice said. I heard them as they walked into the living room. A blonde older woman dressed in a black dress quickly rushed to me.
"Oh Tommy that's her?. She's gorgeous". She exclaimed
"Oh sorry hi I'm Beth Thomas' mother". She said.
