Chapter 7:
The plan was simple. All I had to do was follow it. Despite the fact that it was easy, I had to watch my footing. I didn't want to be too suspicious. I couldn't afford to have us caught.
I walked up to a tall thick guard with a name tag reading Butch. “Jay has a song for you.”
“Follow me.” He orders.
We make out way to the back corner where the soap was held. I glanced around to see if Jay had been right. He, unfortunately, was correct. There weren't any cameras in sight.
“Since when are you in on this?” he asks me.
“Since I over heard them.” I informed him. “Now tell me whatever the hell you need to tell me.”
“Tell Jay his boys are going to meet him the night before the hurricane is supposed to hit. That's exactly one week for him to get ready to get out of here.” Butch looked around. “Anything he wants me to tell them?”
“Just that he's added one to the party.” I told him.
With one final nod, we headed our separate ways. I grabbed some more soap so that it wouldn't look to odd that I had been back there. After that I was back at my station washing sheets.
Blood spatter is all over some of these sheets. When I was putting one in the wash, a tooth fell out. On some of them, there is writing. The letters were formed after they made holes into the fabric. Most of the words that they had spelled out were complete and utter nonsense.
Laundry was one of the worst duties to have. Kitchen wasn't half as bad. It was the one chance that you could sneak some actual food. The guards keep their food in there. When one of them isn't looking, you can steal some of it as long as you're fast enough you don't get caught. Mess hall and bathroom cleaning sucks. There is so much shit every where that it's almost impossible to clean it all up.
I was glad when the bell rang releasing us from duties. One by one we were lead back to our cells. When I entered mine I was surprised that Jay hadn't returned. Usually he is first back from duty. I look across the hall to see that Wallace was already in.
“Where's Jay?” I mouthed to him.
He shrugged.
I peeked through the bars to see if I saw him. The only people that were in the hallway were guards. Maybe his duty was just running late. I laid down on my bed. Closing my eyes, I drifted off to sleep.
I awoke to the sound of the cell being opened. The first thing I saw was Jay stumbling in. he was covered in blood and forming bruises.
“Oh my gosh!” I rushed over to his side, helping him to his bed. “What happened?”
