CHAPTER FOUR
CHAPTER FOUR
CHAPTER FOURIT HAD BEEN SIX DAYS since Cecilia's first case with the BAU, and those six days were filled of nothing but cases. One of them resulting in Prentiss and Reid being held hostage by a cult. Though the two came out alright, Emily a little beaten up, Cecilia had quite a rude awakening of just how different this job was going to be compared to the work she did on the third floor.
Hotch gracefully gave the team the weekend off, which Cecilia was more than grateful for. She hadn't seen her god-siblings in almost a week, and her need for a comfortable interaction rose over the six days. The small florist she owned on the corner of a busy street fell into the hands of Sara and Ace when she was at work. She felt bad for almost never being there despite the fact she owned the brownstone building, but the two always shut down her apols with the phrase 'As long as i'm being payed i'm fine.'
Cecilia couldn't remember a time where the two weren't supportive of her ambitions. It had been that way ever since the girl had been moved into the Reeves household. Tender and sensitive to the beatings of the world. Cecilia knew nothing of her god parents until that day, Rhiannon and Kurt Reeves. The two were highschool sweethearts who hadn't stopped loving one another since they were sixteen. The relationship they had with the girl's deceased parents was sturdy and one filled with only good memories. The promise they made to the Ryders to protect Cecilia if anything were to happen was fulfilled.
Though the two knowingly loved Cecilia very much, as she did them, there was still a void Cecilia felt every time the topic of parents came up. She was sent to therapy for the trauma she endured, and it helped, but it didn't heal. Every now and then the image of her slaughtered parents sitting back to back would flash across her eyes, and she would become shaken up.
The man who killed her parents, Winston Torrance, also known as 'the sleepwalker' was absurdly evil. His M.O was to kill entire families with no connections to anyone else and leave them there to rot in their homes until they were found. He would stab them five times, making sure to slash their major functions. After the blood was spilled he childishly finger painted figures on the walls of the victims homes with their own gore.
The fact that the man had killed Cecilia's parents wasn't the reason she was so shaken up by him. It was the fact he had left her to suffer without the two people she loved the most that kept her awake on sleepless nights. In all of his other cases he had killed everyone in the household of the victims. Cecilia wasn't even hiding. He spared her on purpose. Maybe it was because he knew it was going to be his last kill, Cecilia thought often. She knew in her heart that the reasoning she convinced herself of was false. Despite her constant fear, she managed. Her only hope was that no one else would notice.
She stepped out of her car that was currently parked in front of 'Reeve's Floristry', the wind wasn't gentle on her hair. The sun had just set, and most of the other stores around her were closing. A dim light could be seen from outside of the small brownstone building, she walked over to the flower stand that was facing the rest of the world. It was clear to her that Ace had set the recent shipment out instead of Sara. He never could seem to get the arrangement right, her hands moved faster than her brain as she put the flowers in the correct order. The cold and sudden wind pushed her to open the door and step into the warm building.
"Ah, there she is!" Ace, dressed in a denim jacket and torn Red Hot Chili Peppers tee, stepped over to the girl with open arms. She was soon engulfed in a hug, her cheek pressed against his chest as he squeezed her mercilessly, something he tended to do often.
"Cecil!" Sara enthusiastically said as she walked over in a waddle-like manner, causing the girl to let out a short laugh.
"What'd I say about calling me that, huh?" Cecilia feigned seriousness as she removed herself from Ace's tight grip to put herself in Sara's.
"I think you should know I stopped listening to you years ago." Sara smirked as she pulled back from the hug, hands still on the girls small shoulders.
"Let's get this Thai binge party started, please." Ace rolled his eyes playfully. "I've waited a week."
"You could've eaten Thai food without me Ace." Cecilia turned to the younger boy, with a questioning smile.
"Well then, what's the fun it that?" He raised an eyebrow at her before grabbing a styrofoam box off of the cash register counter and handing it to the girl.
The three of them sat in the middle isle of flowers, all in different positions. Cecilia had her back turned to the sunflowers as she fed herself red curry. Trying not to laugh at something Sara had said in fear of the dish exiting out of her nose. Times like these were always comforting to the girl. She could laugh loudly without being in fear of judging eyes on her. She could spit out the meaningless things that ran across her mind all day.
"Holy shit!" Ace blabbered quickly before setting his beer down. "Lia you got a new job, and we haven't even asked you about it!"
"Oh, I thought you were going to say something ground breaking. That 'holy shit' really drew me in." Cecilia giggled at the boy's dramatics.
"It is groundbreaking, now we don't have to hear you complain about your old boring job." Sara rolled her eyes.
"How is it? Any cute guys?" Ace raised an eyebrow. "Or girls?"
Despite being twenty one, Ace always held a child-like manner to a conversation. Never failing to surprise Cecilia.
"It's pretty fast-paced, I think I'm just now starting to get adjusted." Cecilia swallowed her food before she began talking again. "It makes me feel good though, actually being able to help people. I mean, instead of doing it sitting at a desk."
"You didn't answer my other question." Ace frowned.
"Does your boss know you own this place?" Sara and Cecilia ignored Ace and continued speaking.
"No, I don't think I want to tell him, or the rest of the team." Cecilia stated thoughtfully. "This place is kinda personal."
"It's a flower shop?"Ace furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
"Shut up, you ass." Cecilia pointed at him, with a hint of a smile on her face. "It's our flower shop."
"I get it." Sara nodded, despite the four year age difference between the two, the twenty eight year old always understood the meaning behind Cecilia's words. "You'll probably be gone way more now, you can always count on us to keep this place in check."
"Yeah, minus the fact that Ace can't arrange flowers for shit." Cecilia nodded, while the boy glared at her with a deadpanned look on his face.
