I didn't even realize that I had fallen asleep.

When I awoke, Jason was walking back up the trail with me in his arms.

I was shivering, being in sketchers, skinny jeans, a tank top, and a thin sweater.

"Hey," I murmured sleepily. "What do you think your doing? Put me down, I can walk."

"Maybe I like carrying you." he whispered mischievously.

Narrowing my eyes at him, I swung myself until I had my legs wrapped around his waist, and put my arms behind his head, snuggling my face into his sweatshirt. "Mm-Hmm... Well, that's fine by me then."

I heard his breathing catch at my sudden move, and his arms scooped under my butt, and around my waist to support me.

Walking sure footed along the narrow, twisting path was no small feat. While carrying someone? Heck, I wouldn't try it. I sniffed, and unwrapped each of my arms separately to stretch them out. Twisting my back, I carefully maneuvered so that I could ease some of the strain off of Jason.

"Hey, put me down a minute."

"Why?"

"Because I want to walk... And I need to stretch."

"Well, you feel like a cat, and I'm your scratching post, the way your wriggling against me... I think I WILL put you down."

So saying, he stopped, and let me clamber down. "You go ahead, I'll be there in a couple minutes," I said and motioned to the path ahead.

"What are you going to do?" he asked, curiously watching me as I stretched some more. I paused, and have him a long look. "I have some business to take care of, okay? Eesh."

"Oohhh... Okay!" He sidled past me, and walked on to where the trail would let out some ways ahead. We had both walked down to here, because he lived so close and I enjoyed the fresh air.

I waited until I couldn't hear him any longer, and then walked back the way we had just come from.

Pulling my sweater over my head, I shook out my hair. Grasping the bottom of my tank top to keep it steady, I felt for the long slits in the back of my top.

I pulled my shoulders forward, and breathed out. And...

Whoosh! My wings came out, and were fully extended in the slight drizzle.

Pulling them forward, I cupped them around me, like I was a female Angel of Death that had come reaping. I chuckled at the thought.

'Na, I'm more like a guardian angel... Yeah.' Flapping vigorously, I pulled and stretched to make sure that I had worked all of the kinks out of my wing muscles. Even though they were almost eight feet long each, they folded snugly against my spine, with only a bump to show where each rested.

Breathing deeply, I pushed each downstroke fully into the ground until my primary feathers brushed the dirt. Straining to get a full lift off with out anything other than straight up-and-down strokes was the hardest take off I've tried so far.

My toes were touching, now the balls of my feet, nothing!

One foot, two, four, and- Straining, I gave it a full sweep; down, forward, up, back, down!

Ten feet off! Yes!

Now for the hurt... I snapped in my wings hard against my back, and dropped down the the earth, and let my legs absorb the shock.

Sighing in relief, I walked away happily. Picking up my sweater I put it on as I picked up the pace, almost ramming into Jason halfway back up the trail.

"There you are! I was starting to get worried."

"Well, I'm fine. Hey, is Storm coming over for dinner tonight, or is it just me and you?"

"Weeellll..." he pretended to think, giving me a long look as he did so.

"Oh come on, I'm starving!"

"Yes, Storm is invited. We better get going of we want to be on time." Linking his fingers through mine, he turned and gently tugged me along behind him.

"Storm! It's so good to see you again!"

"Melody! Hey, it's good to see you too! It's been, like, almost a week. What happened to us?" She teased.

I tilted my head and narrowed my eyes at her. "I don't know, but it had better get fixed soon! I need my Storm!" We laughed, as she pointed up at the sky and said: "Well, there ya go! Looks like I'm outta business here, Jason," she nudged him and turned as if to walk away.

"Hey, come on now, don't be like that," I chided gently as I looped my arm around her waist and yanked her towards the restaurant. "You're coming with us, and that's final," I said firmly.

*******

After dinner, we all headed to Jason's apartment to watch a couple of horror movies. I was sitting next to Jason, and Storm was on the other side of me.

We were currently watching Silence of the Lambs. After just finishing The Grudge, Storm had latched herself permanently to my side, practically plastered to mine and Jason's arm, which was around my shoulders.

After having what felt like my eardrums blown out for the thirtieth time in an hour and a half, I jumped up and put in a action movie instead. When I turned around, I laughed aloud.

Storm's eyes were as big as saucers, and she was clinging to poor Jason, who had no idea what to do. Her legs were wrapped around part of his, and she was almost sobbing as she clawed her fingers into his right arm.

"Yeah, so no more scary movies before bedtime for you, missy." I muttered to her as I went in the kitchen to get some water.

There was a crash outside of the window, and I leaned forward over the sink to get a better look.

What I saw made me freeze in place. I wanted to scream, but it was frozen inside of my throat.
