•"Really, Sarah. You actually believe in the Royal Merchant?" I questioned in disbelief, worried on behalf of my friend.
She nodded her head, tucking a piece of her straight hair behind her ear.
There was a sly smile on her face, something she did when she was excited. It really made me question her sanity.
"I have something else to tell you, though." She smirked, her posture inching up animatedly.
I sighed quietly. Laying against the headboard of her bed, I grabbed a pillow of hers and hugged it to my chest. Raising an eyebrow, I urged her to go on.
"Do you remember when we were younger and would talk about our future-"
"Husbands? Yes, I know. You bring this up about every guy you meet." I cut her off.
"Yes, but this is different." She spoke, pleading for me to listen with her eyes. "John B has a friend, named JJ. And I just thought that you two would really work together."
I frowned at her words. Was she delusional?
"Does he have daddy issues?"
Sarah cringed at me. That immediately answered my question and I groaned in frustration.
I hated the idea of her setting me up with anyone, her choice of judgement could easily be biased.
"Look, he really is a great guy. And (Y/n), I mean it when I say you two would be great together." She started, carefully choosing her words. "He's been hurt before, you know? And I think that your sweet and kind enough-"
"Sarah!"
She stopped her sentence, giving me a glare of disapproval. I could tell she was annoyed that I wouldn't give him a chance, but I was in no mood to be dating right now.
"You know what? Your going to meet John B and his friends. And after you see JJ, then you can assume whatever you want about him."
I could tell her decision was final. And grudgingly, I obliged.

I sat uncomfortably in the van that belonged to John B. My supposed future brother-in-law.
He seemed nice enough, and I knew I wouldn't mind being around him. As long as Sarah was happy, I would be too.
The couple sat in the front, smiling and laughing together. And me, being a major third wheel, sat alone in the back.
"We're here." John be grinned, turning to face me. "The Pogues won't bite, promise."
"There super nice, (Y/n)! I know you'll like them." Sarah beamed.
I nodded, narrowing my eyes at the both of them. How old did they think I was?
"You can stop being my parents now." I muttered, smiling softly.
The three of us got out of the van, a cool breeze hitting my face as I stepped onto the grass. There was a small house that I figured was John B's, and I quickly followed them inside.
As I walked onto the porch, I could tell that boys definitely lived here. It was very cluttered, and I grimaced slightly.
"Hey guys." John B called out into the small living space.
Two of his friends sat on the couch, while another was in the kitchen. I laughed quietly, noticing how the stranger was rummaging though the fridge as if his life depended on it.
After he found what he was looking for, which ended up being a can of soda, he turned to us. He waved, and once his gaze shifted to me, a boyish smile bloomed on his handsome face.
"This is (Y/n)." Sarah said cautiously, hoping the Pogues would react warmly to a new Kook.
Both the girl and guy gave me a grin, nodding their heads in approval. I beamed back, already growing fond of them.
"I'm JJ!" The guy in the kitchen exclaimed, his lively expression bringing another smile to my face.
"Nice to meet you." I responded.
Sarah dragged me to sit on the couch, squishing uncomfortably between her and the armrest.
JJ, the one Sarah told me about, was definitely not half-as-bad as I thought he would be. He was quite charming actually. His jokes and sly comments made me immediately like him.
"So, (Y/n) right?" JJ asked, walking over towards the couch and plopping himself onto the floor.
I nodded my head softly, observing him.
"What made you come on our side of town? I mean, aren't we too poor for you-"
"JJ. No." Kiara, who I had seen around school before, snapped at him.
"Chill! I'm just keeping an eye out for you guys." He responded, hands up in defense.
I furrowed my eyebrows at him, his words stinging a bit.
Usually, I wouldn't be as affected if someone said that, but he was different. I wanted so badly for him, and the others, to like me.
"It's okay. I totally get it." I smiled, hoping to make the blonde boy feel at least a little bit of remorse. "Their your friends. I mean- I'd do the same for Sarah."
She gave me a smile, nodding her head to prove my point.
JJ seemed taken a back. Why? I had no idea, but I didn't mind in the slightest.
He kept his eyes on me for a few seconds, studying every inch of my face. I suppressed the urge to blush from embarrassment, trying my best to keep it concealed.
"Well, who wants to go on the boat?" John B interrupted, a knowing look passing between me and his friend.
The group agreed, leaving me to follow Sarah like a lost puppy. I still had no idea who these people were, but I would try my best.
"I'm down. As long as (Y/n) gets to sit next to me." JJ smirked, a lop-sided grin decorating his face.
And with that, we walked out of the house. JJ following closely behind me.
