The Japanese have 4 different writing systems. They include:
-Hiragana; 46 rounded syllables representing the basic Japanese sounds. It is used for sentences/ writing letters.
-Katakana; 46 straight/ square syllables representing the basic Japanese sounds, used for foreign words/ names or dramatic effect.
-Kanji; Complex Chinese characters that use pictographs to represent sounds and/ or ideas.
-Roomaji; English letters, which represent Japanese sounds, they are used on the computer.
