~Your POV~

You woke up to the sun shining in through the window hurting your eyes. You were still encased in Gyro's arms, which brought a smile to your face. You could hear Johnny gently snoring behind you. You could feel Gyro's soft breaths on the back of your tender neck. His hair spill over your shoulders due to the close proximity of the two of you. As usual, he had a hand tangled in with your hair. You could hear Johnny suddenly shuffle. You could tell he was awake, but you couldn't see what he was doing.

You carefully grabbed Gyro's sleeping hand, wrapping it in your own. You looked up on the clock on the wall of the small inn's room, it read 8:59. That meant you had to leave Gyro's warm arms in the matter of mere minutes, which made you quite sad. The clock struck nine, meaning you had to wake him up.

"Gyro, it's time to get up." You said gently shaking him. You had turned around in his arms to face him. The only thing you got in reply from him was a grunt.

"Come on, we have to get up the second stage starts in an hour!" You said a bit louder now. Instead of a verbal response, he just pulled you closer, somehow.

"I know, I don't want to either, but we have to." You said in a caring tone.

"But whyyyyy?" He said stretching out the 'why' in a childish manner, which made you sigh, like a tired mother.

"Because of the second stage,Gyro." You said, knowing that saying his name would get to him. He grumbled and finally released you from his grasp, which disappointed you, but you were happy he finally got up so you could get ready for the day, knowing you would have plenty of nights together throughout the race.

The only reason Johnny hadn't butted in was because he loved seeing the two of you look like a newly wed couple, it made him happy for his two friends.

You procured your bag and skipped out of the room the get you beloved horse, h/n.

You waddled to the back of the inn where there was some half dead grass for he horses to much on throughout the night. You finally spotted your horse. You threw the saddle on its back so you could comfortably ride on it throughout the day. You knew the second stage was going to be long, 1200 kilometers long.

You put your bags on the hooks on the saddle so you had the essentials throughout your cross-continent journey. You knew you needed a lot, but you also had to pack as light as possible for the sake of your horse.

You, Johnny and Gyro walked to the starting line together, the hot Arizona sun was already taking atoll on you, even after just mere minutes. Today was the day that the three of you were going to start having to deal with the extreme climate of the desert.

You all went to your designated spots, you were conveniently sandwiched in between the two men, making you feel a little better, with a twinge of safety. On the other side of Johnny was the well known champion candidate, Diego Brando. He was a self-centered, and quite pompous jockey. However,he was also a genius jockey, and he wasn't bad looking. He was stealing places at you from over  Slow Dancer. His actions brought a light blush to your face. It also made goosebumps line your arms.

You had no clue what his intentions were, until he shot you a sly smile. You knew that was typical of the Brit. Gyro soon caught on, and he was not happy about it. He gave Diego the most menacing glare he could muster. Which, you knew was intimidating because you knew if he tried, Gyro could be pretty scary. But, Diego returned an equally as scary, competitive glare. You sat there, oblivious to their testosterone fueled show down. Johnny kept his eyes forward, now wanting to be stuck in the middle of that.

The two grown men continued their child like play until the announcer come over the loud speaker.

"Racer, on you mark, get set," He started, but was cut off by the earthquaking boom of the starting fireworks. All of the horse shot off, but not too quick, knowing they had a long journey ahead of them. The three of you stayed together. After traveling several kilometers, the sun started to slip away, making the sky turn a dark color You guys knew you had to stop for the night, not wanting to find something sinister that lurked at night.
