Darcy's POV

I have mixed feelings about a lot of things. My mom says that I think too much for my own good and that's the reason I can never commit to anything. However, I feel it's for a completely different reason something that I have pushed to the back part of my cold, dark mind.

" Darcy, come on, you are going to be late," my brother Landon yells.

I sigh softly as I drag myself out of my bed and prepare for school. School is one of those things I have mixed feelings about because it's a distraction from the reality that goes on outside of it. But, it's also a place that will either make you or break you for just being yourself.

I walk across the hall to the bathroom with my uniform in hand to prepare for the day ahead. I stared in the mirror and studied my features, I had smooth chocolate skin with a weird case of heterochromia. I had one blue eye and one orange eye. Many people only talked about how beautiful and unique my eyes were when they first saw me but I wear contacts to school so that no one knows their true color and judges me for it. My mom always told me that I would be different. I just never knew how much until I turned ten.

Flashback- Darcy's tenth birthday

I woke up and felt horrible and it only got worse when I tried to move out of bed. I could feel my eyes were swelling and my head exploding from the major headache I had.

" Mommy what's wrong with me," I whined. " Why do I feel like I'm dying."

" You're becoming that special person that I told you about," she replied softly. She picked me up under my arms and my stomach groaned in protest as it jostled around.

She carried me to the bathroom and sat me on the sink as she began to run an ice cold bath for me. After the tub was filled almost to the top she came over to me and helped me get out of my clothes and placed me in the cold water. Instantly I felt better and my body began to relax, sinking deeper into the cold tub.

" Now Darcy from this day forward you have to be more careful to control yourself. Your power is growing faster," mom said in hushed tones.

"Promise me, you will never tell anyone of what you can do unless it is absolutely necessary," she says looking deeply into my eyes.

" I promise mommy."

Flashback over- back to present

From that day on my powers continued to grow out of control but my mom always helped me manage them until she disappeared. I came home from school one day and she just wasn't there anymore and I knew then that something bad had happened to her.

I sighed sadly and tried to shake the bad thoughts out of my head and got ready for a torturous day at school.

***********

" Happy birthday, Cece," yells Matteo as soon as I descend the stairs. I smile softly at his adorable face before giving him a hug and accepting his poorly wrapped gift.

Matteo is my brother, Landon, son and I loved him dearly. Landon was 28 and legally my guardian after mom disappeared. He had just lost his mate the summer before due to rouges little did they know she was pregnant with little M. Vanessa was able to survive on life support long enough to give birth to Matteo before she died. Landon was devastated for the first week of Matteo's life and mom took care of him as my brother wallowed in grief, until one day he came in and took Matteo and has been in daddy mode ever since never letting on to how hurt he truly was.

It hurts to think what my brother had to go through. Most people go crazy after losing their mate as they can't physically handle the pain of them dying. But Landon had Matteo so he had something to hold on to and live for which I would always be grateful for.
