Ellen Walker sniffed at the pills in her hand and cringed. The odour was so foul it made her want to empty her insides. She quickly swallowed the drugs and gulped down a glass of water, without taking a glance at it. This had been her usual pattern since the news of her parents divorce reached her.
How could her parents of all people take such a drastic decision without considering or even taken cognisance of her feelings? These were her parents who nutured her in the faith. They were the ideal kind of Christian parents.
They were perfect, she barely saw them argue, they we're committed to community service and church activities, she just couldn't comprehend how the thought of separation could ever brush their mind. She moved to the only couch in her small room and slumped down on it. Her headache was getting worse, the pills were no longer helping. The saddest part of her misery, she couldn't voice out, she had tried hard to let the cat out of the bag, but no one would hold her word for it. If anyone heard that are Catholic Christian parents had separated, even the pastor would laugh it off as unbelievable.
She scoffed and grimaced as she imagined the pastor of their church accessing the news and scolding her for cooking such a far-fetched story and slandering her parents. She herself would never have believed if it had not emerged out of the horses mouth. She had seen the document herself. She could remember vividly how her mum's hands, which used to sometime be warm and gentle had suddenly become cold and hard, held her and told her,
"I and your father filed for a divorce, we decided I should be the one to tell you" her expression was straight without any sign of remorse"Di...di..vorce" she shuttered, her head was spinning round, the gigantic parlour she stood in seemed to be closing in on her, her throat suddenly became dry.
She leaned on the stairs railing for support."I'm sorry dear" it sounded so robotic and fake.
"it just didn't work out, it's what is best for everyone" there was no empathy in her voice. She crossed over to the other side of the room
"You don't need to worry about your monthly allowance, it will come steady as always"Her ears could not believe a thing of what she had heard from her own mother.
She gritted her teeth and spat back as she gripped the railings fiercely.
"What the hell!" Vernom was laced in her voice, she had never been this angry, not with anyone, she had been brought up morally, never had she been deviant. She rolled her eyes at the memory, as another wave of headache struck her,
She held her head lightly and waited still the headache relieved her a bit.
She had dosed down the pills 3 times today, she couldn't take another portion, she'd rather get something to eat.
She stood from the couch and strolled to the kitchen of her small apartment.
She scanned for any quick meal and settled in for the leftover spaghetti and meatballs from her hurried breakfast this morning.
She put it in the microwave, and strolled back to her desk.
Her eyes caught the mini clock on her desk, and she grew alarmed, she had just thirty minutes before the prayer meeting would kick off, being the first prayer for the session, she couldn't bail out. Not that she felt like going because God had been 'really good' to her and right now God was not her most favorite person, but Ben Ockland, the prayer leader called earlier saying God lead him to tell her to handle the follow up section.
She scoffed at the idea, either Ben made it up, or God was playing a serious joke on her.
She couldn't refuse, she was the golden girl with a strong Christian background and amazing parent.
This was not the first time she was taking that segment of the fellowship, but right now she couldn't, she was a totally different person from the Ellen Walker everyone knew.
The divorce changed her.Knowing this , that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
She shook her head slightly, it was the scripture that kept popping into her head and she was not ready to here anymore gullible scriptures. Her faith was useless, God could have at least stopped the divorce, she was a good Christian, she prayed daily, read her Bible did everything that was required of her, she once believed God strongly.
