Song Mei, lay there in the hospital bed. She had head phones in her ears and was trying to figure out what song she wanted to listen to. Her phone had ten albums on it. All of them were from the same group. Teen Top. They were a Korean Pop group that she became obsessed with. When she was healthier, she would dance to the songs and post the covers on the internet. Song Mei became very popular from these.
Then, she started to get strong pains in her pelvis area. She told her mother and doctor about it and they said it was normal. She tried to not complain about pain, but eventually it became too severe. The pain brought her down to her knees and she couldn't walk one day.
When Song Mei's mother brought her to the emergency room, they did several scans. The doctors said they had to do surgery on the area. There was something inside her ovary and that it was growing. She was only nineteen then. Of course, she was nervous. They told her that there was a possibility of her having Ovarian Cancer. When the results came back two days later, it was confirmed. She had Ovarian Cancer.
It was spreading throughout her body by then though because her family waited so long to take care of the problem. Song Mei's whole reproductive system was infected and it was spreading to her legs. That's why she had trouble walking.
Even after many chemo treatments and the removing of her uterus, she was still not cancer free. Now she's twenty-one and being killed by the ever growing cancer.
Song Mei's mother walked into the room. She looked down at the destroyed body of her cancer infested daughter. Song Mei looked up from her phone and smiled. "Hey, what's up, Mom?" Song Mei asked. Her mothers blue eyes started to glaze over with tears. She bent down and placed her hand on her daughter's bald head. Then, placed a hand on her puffy cheek, which was a side effect of the chemo.
Song Mei's mom brought her forehead to her daughter's and let the tears fall. Song Mei put down her phone. She huffed in displeasure. "How long did they say I have?" She asked her mother in an uninterested tone. Song Mei knew that the treatments the doctors were giving her weren't working. She knew it would be coming someday. She knew they would be predicting when she would die.
"Not enough," her mother said through her tears. Song Mei raised her arms and rubbed her mothers back for comfort. "It's going to be fine. That means that I won't be suffering much longer." Her mother sat up and took Song Mei's hands in hers. "How can you say that?" She asked her daughter, clearly shocked.
Song Mei's eyes formed into the sad and depressed expression they normally did. "It hurts, Mom. I think it's time to give up." Her mother let go of Song Mei's hands and got off the bed. "Not yet." Then, she left the room.
Song Mei went back to her phone. She randomly picked a song. It was "So Sweet," from Teen Top's album called No.1. She turned the volume up as high as she could in an attempt to drown out her sadness. She wanted to go. She wanted to die, but her mother wouldn't let her.
About two months later, there was a knock on Song Mei's door. Song Mei didn't hear it due to the volume of her music. Her mother walked in with a big smile on her face. She walked over to Song Mei and pulled one of her ear buds out. "I have a surprise for you!" Her mother jumped from side to side in excitement.
Song Mei tried to mirror her mothers excitement, but she couldn't for her condition had worsened. Her due date for her death was coming soon. She could tell. "What is it?" Song Mei asked.
Her mom sat on the hospital bed. "Well, you were given one wish from the Make a Wish Foundation. It was a few months ago actually, but who cares. I made the wish for you because I wanted you to be surprised." Song Mei wanted to sit up in alarm, but wasn't strong enough to. So, she raised her brows and let her eyes get wide.
