CHAPTER 1 : SOLITUDE

Azelle's POV

The only thing I've been from the past few days was numb. That was the perfect way of describing my present condition. As the days passed by in loneliness, my heart no longer felt any pain. It had become void, incapable of showing any kind of feelings. There was neither pain nor any sign of happiness reflecting in my life. I no longer believed in hope, because that would mean that there would still be a chance to revive. But I can never revive and I don't think I want to revive after what has been the reason behind my sullen solitude.

With these painful memories, I let sleep take control over me. I had noticed that I've been doing that very frequently lately. I guess that was the only escape I was able to find to get rid of these daggers from piercing my heart. Maybe not completely but partially. Sleep was my voyage to happiness which unfortunately lasts only for a limited period of time. But I guess I wasn't that lucky enough that day.

There was someone sitting on the old rusted bench. I couldn't make out who it was. She was dressed in black jeans with a hoodie. There was something written on it. But it wasn't clear. With careful observation I was able to decipher those words. It was written in red cursive writing.

Nothing lasts forever.

I let go a chuckle from my lips. If someone had showed me that message few weeks ago, I would have agreed with them. I would even pass few philosophical comments on it. But now? I know better than that.

I chanted those words repetitively. Nothing lasts forever? But it does. It always did. I've just come to know about that recently. There are many things which last forever. The emptiness I feel does. It always will. There will never be an escape to this.

That girl was reading a book. There was a picture of a couple holding hands on the cover page of it. She was flipping the pages of it with her sleek petite fingers. Every now and then, she would start playing with her hair. Her brown wavy locks fell below her shoulders reaching her waist. It reminded me of someone really special. There was one thing constant in her actions. Her smile. It looked like it could lighten the spirits of numerous people.

During this time, I took notice of the surroundings. I realized that this was none other than the park, the one nearest to my house. It was the month of autumn. There was a continuous stream of leaves falling from the trees enhancing the scenic beauty of that place. Autumn always brings out the philosophical character out in me. I could just keep staring at them for hours and think about every random thing possible.

Usually this place would have been crowded, but now it was empty. There was not a single person present there at that moment except for the girl sitting right in front of me. That was strange. My eyes again landed on that girl.

There was something in her I couldn't figure out. But I was drawn towards her. There was an imaginary thread pulling me closer to her. Her face was not visible yet. I hesitated to move forward, but nonetheless I still followed my hearts desire and took a few steps forward. There was no change in her actions at that time.

I accidentally stepped on a small twig making a shrill sound which made her realize that she wasn't the only one present. She looked around a couple of times before her eyes settled on mine. I took this as an opportunity and observed her features as they were now crystal clear.

I was taken aback. I was in a state of shock. It took me a few seconds to finally come back to my senses. The girl who was looking back at me was none other than my twin sister, Isabelle. We were not identical twins though. Her smile grew even more wider when she recognized me and she immediately engulfed me in her arms, whispering something. I couldn't figure out what she was trying to say. The only thing I was able to do was to make myself comfortable in her arms, making me feel protected.
