Y/n feels something warm in her hand. It was a soft and familiar feeling that she couldn't shake. So, she opens her eyes to the still dimly lit room.

"Hey Angel...it's been a while, hasn't it?"

There's a pause, and something creates a light dip on the edge of the mattress. Y/n lifts her head a bit out of curiosity, and her eyes immediately widen.

"A-America...?"

America's head shoots up to look up at her. Within seconds, he had pulled her into a tight embrace. Y/n winces at the pain from her bruises and broken ribs, but her emotions overpower the pain enough for her to forget about it. She hugs him back tightly and buries her face into his shoulder.

"Y/n..." America does his best to hold back his sobs. But after he mutters her name, he seems to forget anything else that he was about to say.

Y/n sits with him there for several minutes. Both were crying, America more than her. She couldn't imagine the h*ll that he had gone through while she was gone. Y/n knew that if their places had been switched, she would have probably felt the same way at that moment.

Eventually, America's grip on her has tightened so much that the pain finally enters her mind. Y/n grimaces and lets out a small whine as the pain in her ribs flares up, causing him to immediately pull away from her.

"I'm sorry! Are you okay? Do you need me to get a doctor or painkillers or-"

"I-I'm okay," She says shakily. "Take your glasses off?"

America quickly does as he's told and shoves his glasses in his jacket pocket.

Y/n cups his face in his hands, wiping her tears away with her thumbs. America's eyes showed that he had been crying beforehand. The dull look in them also showed that he was tired and stressed out of his mind.

She pulls him down to her level and kisses him on the forehead. It makes him laugh softly, which in turn makes her smile.

"Hey there, pretty boy," Y/n giggles weakly as she pulls away.

"Hi Angel..." America replies in a quiet voice.

"How's your side?"

He flashes a small smile at her. "I've had worse,"

Y/n giggles again, but also winces straight after as her pain once again begins to flare up again. Panic flashes in America's gaze. He takes her hand and squeezes it in comfort.

"I-I'm okay..." She mutters after a minute or two.

He doesn't reply. Instead, America gently kisses the back of her hand. The affectionate action makes Y/n blush lightly. When she looks back at him, she notices the fresh tears forming in his eyes.

"Stars...?"

"I'm sorry we weren't there sooner..." America mumbles.

Y/n stays quiet for several moments. The memories of the basement flash in her mind, making her hands tremble softly.

He picks up on her discomfort and quickly apologizes. America then reaches up to brush a strand of hair out of her face.

"I-I don't really want to talk about it yet..." She mumbles.

"That's okay," America says encouragingly.

Y/n nods, letting out a small sigh of relief as she does. She squeezes his hand and allows her soft smile to return.

They sit there in silence for a while, enjoying each other's company for the first time in weeks. Eventually, Y/n begins to get drowsy again. Something that America notices.

"Tired?" He chuckles.

"A little..." She mutters before blinking a few times in an attempt to push the sleepiness away. "What time is it...?"

"Nine AM, give or take," America replies. "But you should probably go to sleep,"

"Will you stay...?" Y/n asks quietly.

He leans down and kisses her cheek, then pulls away just enough so that their faces hover above each other's.

"I'm never leaving you again,"

Y/n wraps her arm around his neck and pulls him down into a long, gentle kiss. America's lips turn into a grin. His arm reaches up to cup her cheek affectionately.

After they pull apart, the freedom country crawls into the bed next to her. Both are careful so not to disturb each other's injuries. But once they're finally situated, it's only seconds before they're both nodding off.

It was the first time in weeks that either had gotten a good night's sleep.

The next morning, Y/n was cuddling in the hospital bed with him. America was running his fingers through her hair, just the way she liked him to do it. She smiles to herself, her hand absent-mindedly tracing the area around his bandaged wound.

"Are you sure it's okay...?" Y/n mumbles.

"I'm sure," He chuckles, his hand stopping it's stroking motion and simply resting on top of her head. "It's just a scratch, really,"

She just hums, unconvinced that he was really okay.

A few knocks at the door gets both of their attentions. Less than a second later, Germany walks in. It seemed as if he had merely knocked out of courtesy rather than planning on waiting for a reply.

"Hello, Doctor Germany," Y/n laughs.

Germany rolls his eyes playfully and walks over to her side of the bed. America helps her sit upright.

"How are you feeling?" Germany asks.

"Tired, but I'm okay," She replies. "My ribs hurt..."

"Well, that's normal," The country tells her. "Two of them are broken, they'll probably take a few more weeks to heal completely,"

"Can you give her any more pain medication?" America asks. Worry was laced in his voice.

Germany thinks for a moment before responding to Y/n. "We could try to change your current medication to see if it helps,"

"Can we...?" She asks timidly.

"Of course," Germany smiles at her. "I'll get see if we have any on-site,"
