I'm back!!! Maybe?
A week had passed since the confession. Cara acted as if nothing happened, Gilbert continued to brush it off. He brushed it off as if nothing was picking at his brain and chewing him up inside. Sometimes Cara would take Arnie places, and not invite Gilbert. Unless Arnie wanted him to come of course. Finally Gilbert felt as though he needed to speak up about the situation. The confession. He walked into the living after helping Arnie to bed, and found Cara sitting on the couch reading a book.
"Ahem," he coughed. She looked up from her book and then brought her attention back to it.
"Yes?"
"Can we talk, please?"
"Of course," she said placing the book face down in her lap. She looked up at Gilbert, from her spot on the couch. He walked over and took place next to her, leaving a foot of space between them," What is it?"
"I think you know," Gilbert furrowed his brows slightly. Cara looked at her hands in her lap, the room was silent for about a minute until Gilbert spoke up," come on, I'm sorry."
"Gilbert, these sort of things make me uncomfortable. I don't... like that kind of love. I find it... I don't know," Cara closed her eyes and covered her face with her hands.
"Is that it? Well then why does Elliot come over?" A confused look came upon Gilberts face. Why did she accept his gifts, and stupid flirting? Why did she make him cookies and give him passionate hugs. Does she enjoy his disgusting stares?
"That's different, I don't love him. He's just a friend."
"I don't think he wants to be friends Cara, come on! Open your eyes," he puller her hands away from her face, and gently held one in his own hand," I'm so confused, I don't know how to feel." Cara left her hand limp in his. She looked down at it and sighed.
"I just... don't-" A knock on the wall caused Cara to look behind her. Arnie stood there rubbing as eye.
"I can't sleep," Arnie said walking over to the couch and standing in front of Cara and Gilbert," Can you sing to me or something?" Gilberts face softened at this. Cara stood up and followed Arnie to his room. Gilbert sat on the couch, rubbing his hands up and down his pants. He listened to Cara's feet pad across the wood floor until he couldn't hear the soft footsteps anymore. He stood and walked to Arnies door, he stood in the doorway and watched through the door crack. Cara was sat on the edge of Arnies bed, petting his hair. Singing... Elvis?
"Like a river flows, surely to the sea,
Darling so it goes,
Somethings are meant to be,
Take my hand, take my whole life too,
For I can't help falling in love with you," Her voice was soft and angelic. She tried to keep it as soft as possible the whole time, all while trying not to strain her voice as a single tear fell from her eye. Arnie closed his eyes and shuffled under his blanket. Cara carefully got up and looked in Gilberts eyes as she slowly walked towards the door. She opened it fully and shut it slowly behind her.
"You have a nice voice," Gilbert said looking down at her. Her gaze was pointed towards her feet.
"Thanks."
"I truly am sorry, I never wanted to make you uncomfortable."
"It's fine, I'm fine, don't worry about me."
Sorry this was short, its 2 am... and yeah that's my excuse... tehe :) (Unedited)
