I'll teach you how to breathe again
while scrounging my lungs for oxygen.
I'll teach you how to make the stars align
while becoming the velvet black that blankets them.
I'll teach your heart how to beat in delight
while mine tunes its fight into a ballad.
I'll teach you how to wander your way home
while I myself am a stranger to my bones.
I'll teach you how to fall in love with life
while I take the exit one step at a time.
I'll teach you all the kindest words
while the atrocious ones echo in my mind.
I'll teach you that our shoulders are meant for crosses to bear
while mine slips slowly into Earth so barren.
I'll teach you how to be fearlessly gentle
while I struggle to unlearn how to be a cruel lover.
