Chapter 5: Bob

We are walking through the school halls. I asked Liam some questions about being in High School, for some reason he thought I was home schooled, which was a good thing now I won't hide me being new to this kind of environment.
Everyone's eyes were on us, it was so obvious because they all cleared the path for us, watching us intently as we walked down the hall.
"The best part of school is I get to see the girls. Learning's good and all but I don't like it", he says and waves at a group of girls before turning to look at me," You would love it here since you're home schooled and all, everything will be new and exciting for you",
I look back at the girls, they were all chatting and I think I heard a squeal from one of them, I couldn't stop the small smile from forming on my lips.
     "Yeah, I'm excited", I can't deny it.
He kept walking and I followed him, walking beside him, asking questions about high school.  He leads me to a door labeled "Principal's office" and stops.
We both stared at the door as if it held something special,
"...But I have to warn you...", he starts, "in highschool, first days are always the hardest",
     I just nod my head.
I turned the door handle before turning back to look at him,"I think I can handle it", I say and walk in. But, what's so hard about school?.

---

Principal Cole opens the door of the classroom for me and I walk in. The meeting with the Principal wasn't that bad. In fact, he was extremely nice. He asked me of my grades when we were in his office. Apparently, Gemma was supposed to come with me to see Principal Cole. I'm gonna tell Gemma to come tomorrow to settle things with him.
Everyone's eyes were on us as we both got into the classroom.
"Morning class", he starts,"This is Kary Peter the third. She was home schooled which makes this the first time she has attended school today. Treat her well", he says. I was just standing there, looking back at the millions of eyes that are staring at me. Principal Cole apologizes to the teacher  for interrupting before he leaves the class.
That was a really brief introduction.
The teacher walks up to me,"Kary, why don't you take a seat beside Leo Carter", she says pointing in the direction of a guy sitting beside the window. There was an empty chair by his side. He was staring outside the window but he turned to look at me when he heard his name. A grin appeared on his face.
I walked towards the empty seat and sat down. Leo leaned towards me and was about to whisper something,
"Leo Carter, not a word to Miss Kary while she's beside you. We both know that's just a temporary seat and I hope you will at least try to be quiet for these few days",
He just rolled his eyes," I'll try my best Miss K.",
She looked at him in disbelief,"One more word and it's detention", she said, "and don't call me Miss K.".
Detention?, another strange word?, Liam never mentioned that.
She started teaching and I just stared at her and then back at the board. I can't understand what she's saying. It was like she was speaking in another language. She went on and on about something called 'molecules'.
"Well, I tried", I hear Leo say moments later and I turned to look at him. He leaned towards me again and whispers,
"Sorry for the weird introduction, I'm Leo and that's Miss Kelly, Nice to meet you ", he says, smiling at me,
"Are we meant to be taking in class?", I ask him, I have a bad feeling about this,
"Not exactly. Just don't get caught", I nodded and took a quick glance at the teacher and sure enough her back was still turned towards us. I looked back at Leo,
"What happens if we get caught?", I asked, eyes wide. My mind thinks of that detention stuff,
"Just detention", he says and that makes my face fall.  That's not what I was expecting,
"What's that... They lock you up and torture you?. Like what happens in the dungeons?", I ask, my eyes wide. Leo looks at me in a weird way and I notice I was saying weird stuff the moment I uttered the word 'dungeons'.
Leo let's out a little laugh which was louder than expected. But he quickly stopped and sat up straight and I did the same. And just as we expected, that laugh caught Miss Kelly's attention.
Don't get caught, I thought and acted like nothing happened. Miss Kelly was walking towards us. She stopped between our seats and turned to face Leo,
"Mr Carter, may I ask what is amusing you?", she asked, glaring at him. Leo gave the teacher a small smile,
" I just thought about something funny", he lied. I thought Miss Kelly believed him but she turned towards me and asked,
"Miss Peter...", she looked at me expectantly. My heart skipped. What am I supposed to say?, Yes?, No?, I looked down at my laps. If I say yes... then Leo gets detention because of me, but I gain the trust of Miss Kelly but if I say no... Leo doesn't get detention but I lose the teacher's trust.
In a Princess' life, trust is important. You have to gain the trust of your people and anyone else you meet in life. Which includes those outside the kingdom. They trust you enough to have you rule over them
I could feel Miss Kelly's cold stare on me and I couldn't shake it off. This is a decision that I may regret, but I guess it was worth it.
"Well, did he?", she asked again,
"Yes", I tell her, still looking down at my laps. Leo's gonna hate me for this.
"Thank you for your honesty", she turns to Leo,"You... Detention after school",
"Yes ma'am. I understand", He didn't look at Miss Kelly in the eyes instead he stared down at his desk. He looked so miserable and I couldn't help but feel some of this is my fault. I'm beginning to regret my decision of not lying to the teacher, but there's nothing I can do except apologize. I quickly glanced at Leo, he just sighed and looked back through the window.

---

The bell rings and everyone starts packing their books. I guess this means class is over.
"Don't be in so much hurry.  Let's take home an assignment before you leave", Miss Kelly says and everyone groans in reply. She ignores them and starts writing on the board.
Why did they groan... Is an assignment a bad thing here, I thought and looked around. They were all taking down what Miss Kelly was writing. I decided to join them.

---

"Alright class, that'll be all for today", Miss Kelly says and everyone starts leaving the class. I arrange my books and place them into my bag. I turn to look at Leo. He's still staring through the window. I got up and walked to where he was. I looked through the window but there was nothing there.
"What are you looking at?", I asked out of curiosity. He jerked,"Sorry, did I scare you? ",
"Yeah!... I almost had a heart attack", he says clutching at his chest. Then he looked around, "is class over?", he asked and I nodded in response.
"Then what are you still doing here?", he asked again,
"You looked like you didn't know about it and you were staring through that window throughout the whole class ",
"So, you're saying you were staring at me throughout the whole class?", he gave me a cheeky grin
"Not throughout the class,  just once in a while. Are you okay?, is something bothering you? ", I asked. "You looked so sad while looking through the window.",
He sighed and got up from his seat, "I'm alright ", he says and gives me a small smile,"it'll soon be time for our next class, let's go ", he walked past me.
We left the classroom and closed the door behind us. I didn't know how to bring up the apology. He doesn't look like he was angry. Why is it so hard to apologize. Maybe I should go straight to the point. I take a deep breath,
"Leo, I'm sorry ", I say and bow my head so I can avoid his gaze,
     "For what? ",
"For making you get that scary detention. Sorry",
He scoffed, "is that what you are sorry for. It's not your fault. I'm the one that decided to talk during class, I chose to disobey the rules .  I'm getting what I deserve.", he said, and gives me a pat on the head, " in fact, I'm the one that's meant to be sorry. I had no idea that she would ask you. Sorry for putting you in such an awkward position on your first day", he looked so sincere but suddenly the sad expression on his face turned into a grin.
"To make up for it, how about I give you a special tour of the school later?",
That made me feel better, knowing that he wasn't angry with me.
     "That'll be lovely", I smiled,
"What about the detention", I asked
"It's not that scary. They just put you in a class and you're not allowed to do anything. I think I can handle it as long as no-one seats close to me.", it actually doesn't sound that bad
"Anyways, I saw the assignment on the board, I wasn't listening to anything Miss Kelly said so I'm going to need your help. You were listening, right?",
"Well... I was listening but I wasn't understanding. It was really confusing", it really was and I couldn't understand any of it. The Principal told me he would be watching my grades. So failure is not an option.
     "I know the feeling",
"Do you know anyone that can teach us?",  I asked him. "Someone who is good at all the subjects. It would be a big help.",
"I do recommend someone",  he starts
     "Who?",
     "Bob"

I am so sorry I didn't post. I've been packed lately. Apparently trying new things all at once is tiring😅😅. I try my best, I'll work harder.
