I don't know about you, but I am honestly not the fan of 'An apple doesn't fall far from the tree' thing. It is a stupid, forced statement that came into human society a long damn time ago, and it lingered. Back then, perhaps, that was true, because people were very sceptic toward divercity - they still are in some cases, unfortunately.

But the thing with this quote is, or the problem of it, should I say it better, is the fact that it imposes on us that our surrounding - school, family, friends, univesity, etc. - is the reflection of ourselves. And that is just pure garbage!

I say, The apple goes as far from the tree as you take it. Because, in reality, you can have a group of friends that smoke and drink, but that doesn't entirely mean that you will be like that, as well.

You can picture this as a sculpture made of clay.

You, or your personality better spoken, is the clay for which you already have a plan of how you will shape it. Now, in order to accomplish your sculpture to look as you wish, you need to work on it with your own hands. Sure, you can pick up on someone else's technique is you see that it is better and faster, but don't allow that other to do the job for you. Because as much of a good way as someone else might have, his path is not yours - his image of your personality is not the same as yours.

In result, if you let other people shape your clay, your sculpture will never look like you wanted it to, because in reality, it is not you who made it. And no, there is no scheme that you can use to help them out, because even then, there are still some spots, some curves that you would like to be different. So, if you allow others to turn you and tuck you into hallways and rooms that you didn't anticipated or wanted for yourself to enter, you will become the apple that indeed didn't fall far from the tree.
