"You should apologize to Jesse." Annie's voice cut through the silence.
"I know. I'm sorry." And I was. I am.
"You shouldn't have said that. If you had any idea what he's been through-"
"I know!" I cracked it. "Do you think I'm stupid?! Jesse is our friend! I don't mean to be rude! I just get mad when people correct me!" Annie flinched at my sudden outburst, fear just showing in her cognac eyes.
"I- I'm sorry." I stared down at my hands, clenched into fists in my lap. I was mad at myself for snapping. We both said nothing for a while. Then Annie slid her hand into mine and rested her head on my shoulder.
"It's okay," she mumbled.
