The Vampire

His smile widens at my fear

My pulse races beneath my skin

I gasp as he closes in on me

His target

His black eyes held me where I stood

I didn't attempt to move

His body radiated beauty no longer.

He was lethal...

My bones were frozen,

my skin chilled,

as he secured my frame.

His face was soon adjacent to mine

I turned away.

I seem to do as he had planned

His lips hovered above my neck

And with one cold hand he stopped my breath

Hate was nowhere in his eyes,

in their deeps I saw desire

and torturous regret

I looked down,

His eyes reflecting pain

My heart ached at his suffering

Why did I feel compassion for my killer?

As I dared another glance into his eyes

My heart skipped,

My breathing intesified.

He said everything with one look

Emotions erradically conflicted

In his forever frozen being

He spoke "I'm sorry"

His words seemed to pain him,

His hand still lingered at my neck,

as he slowly whispered,

"It's a poor excuse for what I've done, but..."

"I love you."

I didn't know what to say

Troubled, he looked,

as he waited for my reply

Lost for words

I smiled.

His lips upturned into an uneven grin

that made the air warm

His cold touch inviting,

And there we stood in the meadow

The moonbeams kissing our sanctuary,

I wondered,

If this was my forever.
