The sun filtered through the curtains delicately with it's endless streams of gold, the morning's sunlight just beginning to dance along the cream colored walls and worn cherry wood floors. She slept peacefully, a relaxed expression painting her youthful features as her hands wandered to clutch onto a nearby throw pillow. She dreamt. She dreamt of a life unfamiliar to her own, a life of adventure and curiosity, free of the pressures of her own reality. It had been ages since she'd had a dream, spending most nights awake and restless as she kept herself busy with work. She owned and ran a small flower shop below her apartment, often overworking herself in order to prepare fresh, sweet smelling bouquets to sell the next day. She had her work cut out for her when it came to running the shop, considering she lived alone and worked by herself most days, except for when her sister would occasionally drop in for a quick cup of golden chamomile tea and an afternoon chat in the garden.

Though her dreams were cut short, seeing as she awoke abruptly to a sudden burst of knocking coming from the front door of the shop below. She squinted as she sat up, pushing the cushiony soft quilt away from her body as she swung her legs over the side of the bed. The sun from her bedroom window shone upon her face, accentuating the already prominent freckles that dotted across her pale skin like shooting stars to a night sky. "Edith! Edith, are you home, dear?" A familiar voice chimed from downstairs, a voice that you couldn't forget even if you tried. A voice smooth and sweet like lavender honey in a warm cup of tea. It was her sister, Marnie. "I- I'm up! Just give me a moment!" Edith called back, wide eyed as she came to realize she'd slept in about an hour too late. She scrambled out of bed, feet padding along the creaky wooden floors as she rushed to find an appropriate outfit, one that wasn't dirty. She fumbled about for a few minutes more, finally dressed and somewhat ready to present herself to her sister. she had thrown on a flowy cream-colored skirt that reached down to her ankles, complimenting the puffy-sleeved moss green embroidered top that modestly hugged her upper frame. She took a quick look in the mirror, a frown tugging at the corners of her lips as she stared back at her reflection, her newly cut ginger pixie standing wildly upon her head as an aftermath of her prior sleeping position. Swiftly, she ran her fingers through her short locks in an attempt to tame the many flyaways, turning on her heel and marching down the steps once she felt content with her appearance. "Sorry! Must have slept in, I suppose." Edith laugher nervously as she fumbled to get the key in the lock, finally opening the door to welcome her sister into the shop. Seeing Marnie's face immediately led a smile to tug at Edith's lips, happy to see a familiar face for once in awhile. She hadn't seen her sister in upwards to 3 months, which was far too long for the both of them to stay sane, they thrived in each other's company. "There you are, silly! I was beginning to think you'd up and left." Marnie laughed, pulling her sister in for a tight yet brief hug, her puffy, long blonde hair swaying as she moved. She pulled away slightly a few moments after, a surprised expression tainting her features as her gaze traveled to Edith's hair. "My, goodness gracious! What did you do to your hair?" Marnie gawked, lifting a lacey gloved hand to gently touch her sisters hair. "Ah, I got it cut a few weeks ago. 'You like it?" Edith chimed, smiling widely. "You look like a boy, Edith!" Marnie burst into laughter, pulling her sister in for another tight embrace. "But, it suits you. It reminds me of father." Marnie smiled as she slowly pulled away from the hug, resting her hands on Edith's shoulders. Edith felt a small tang in her heart at the mention of her father, but it made her smile nonetheless. The loss of their father was undoubtedly rough on the both of them, it had already been 3 years since, yet Edith still saw the man in everything. She saw him in the tulips outside her bedroom window, In the old tabby cat that lived in the bakery across the square, in the way Marnie smiled, even in herself at times. As for her mother.. Edith preferred not to speak of her, avoided it evidently. The woman was cold and calloused, selfish and unruly. "Well. I figured you could use some help opening up shop, that's why I arrived at such an early hour." Marnie explained as she stepped past Edith, allowing the door to shut behind them while she looked around the shop, poking around a bit. "Thank you. I just need some help displaying some bouquets and moving a few boxes around, then we should be ready." Edith smiled, turning to her sister, having to look up slightly as the woman was noticeably taller then her. "Well, then. Let's get to work!" Marnie clapped her hands together, flashing a toothy grin.
