Bling

Is that a notification? Did someone text me!?

I picked up my phone, shaking with anxiety and excitement.

I sighed seeing it was just a news report.

Damn will she ever text me back? She probably thinks I'm a girl like everyone else..

I began to put my phone down before I noticed something. This wasn't a normal news notification.

The headlines read "the smiley face murders of the east coast."

I have always been interested in dark stuff like murderers and suicides. Not that I'm depressed or anything, it's just interesting to think about what was going through their head at that moment. What caused the murders? What caused that person to want to die? What did the victim think knowing their death was on the way?

I thought about that for a bit before clicking into the article.

"According to Detective John Smithson these aren't proven to be murders. They appear to be "accidental drownings." Each victim to these drownings are popular white college aged men who have been out drinking at bars or parties and have signs of being strangled. But Cherif Todd Miller says these are accidents since they have drugs and alcohol in their systems before death."

My eyes skimmed over the article, taking in enough information to know what was going on.

I didn't bother finishing it when I finally got a text.

"Fùck yeah," I whispered under my breath, entering the messaging app.
I laid back on the couch, sighing with defeat when I realised it was just my friend Cody.

"Hey man, it's your birthday tomorrow!! Guess what that means?"

"I get to skip work and sleep?" I replied to his text.

"No.. your 21! Your old enough to go to a bar finally! You're not a little baby boy anymore."

"Oh cool, but I'd rather sleep, btw I thought you were Sophie you arshole."

 "Sophie? YOUR TEXTING SOPHIE?"

 "Yeah so what?"

 "Alright sending out the text…."

"Oh god what are you doing now?"

"Inviting Sophie, you have to come now"

 "Burn"

I shut off my phone and rested it on my chest.

Maybe this isn't so bad after all! I can finally talk to her and not desperately try texting her. My face burned bright at the thought of sitting next to her. Her cute little head leaning on my shoulder.

Then a thought came to my head.

Shite what if she likes Cody more? Cody is way more masculine and hot and popular with way better grades… I sighed knowing exactly how this was going to play out. Whatever, I'll still try. I told myself firmly.
