So I decided to rewrite and change the story up a bit, and I haven't read this since I wrote it, so apologies for that. I honestly do not know how well the previous chapters go with this- Sorry guys.

Time skip:

I winced in pain as the contractions grew closer together. The baby was coming despite my attempts to prevent my going into labor.

I had just walked into the Wilmington library when my water broke. My pregnancy was well hidden by the tightness of my stays, so I left no room for gossip in the town. My family was well known in Wilmington, but they were unfortunately plagued by measles. My parents and my brother succumbed to the illness, but my sister and I survived. We had no other living family in the colonies so we planned to immigrate to Scotland where our Aunt lived. On the passage however, my sister fell sick and died in her sleep after the first night she had the illness. I then decided to stay and work on the ship. I had no purpose after the death of my little sister, and thought it better to live at sea rather than Scotland. That was until I was with child and the father was arrested for smuggling and died in jail. I then decided that it would be better to stay in Wilmington for the time being.

I moaned at the pain of the contractions hoping that they would stop and I would not have the child. I was in complete agony, but I tried hard to hide it.

"Excuse me. Are you alright?" A woman asked me. I answered yes, but she could tell I was lying.

"I'm a healer. If you are in pain, I can help you. My name is Claire." Her voice sounded stern, but it was soft and consoling.

My eyes grew watery and a tear slid down my face. For some odd reason, I felt that I could trust this woman, and in the moment she was all I had. "I'm having a baby," I whispered. All the time I was able to hide it, this stranger now knew of the scandal I had placed upon my name. I began to collapse into the woman's arms and all went black. While I was out the woman and the librarian dragged me into an empty office. They then lifted me onto a desk.

"Sir, I am a healer something is wrong with this woman and it may result and me performing a surgery. Can you please leave us in privacy?" Claire ordered to the librarian. She had not told him of my condition, which I was extraordinarily grateful for.

She slid my skirt up to reveal blood on my stockings. I awoke to her checking to see how far along the baby is.

"Well dear, you are in labor." She said excitedly. There was a look of terror that rose on my face, and I cried out. "Don't worry. I have done this many times. What's your name?"

I was in very much pain, but the fear had a stronger grasp on my thoughts. I was but eighteen years of age, unwed, and going to be a mother. Being practically homeless was also a disadvantage. I had quite a lot of money, so I was able to reside at the inn near the port, but I could not stay there much longer. After my money was gone, I would have nothing. I would be the talk of the town, and being a mother was a guarantee that no man would marry me. This child was a death sentence.

I squealed as another contraction passed. "My name is Margarita." I usually went by Peggy, but in an attempt to save myself I did not tell her that information.

The woman smiled, "That's a lovely name. Is your husband nearby, so we can tell him the news?"

I felt my jaw began to lock and my eyes swell. My head convulsed as I was reminded of the father of my child. I began to sob. The emotional pain always hurts more than the physical, I was reminded. Despite the pain of labor, my thoughts of the man I loved pained me far more.

"Do not worry my dear, your secret is safe with me." Claire seemed to be aware of the extent of my situation. She was a kind, selfless woman. I could not think of a single other person who would have helped me under the circumstances. "Margarita, next time you have a contraction, you are going to have to push."
