I unlocked my car and threw the journal towards the passengers side, not really caring where it ended up. I just couldn't wait to get away from here and go home. It had been a long day, and going home, putting my feet up and seeing Eden sounded so perfect right now. So, I pulled out of the parking lot and headed towards our apartment. God I could not wait to see her. Knowing that I will see her is what keeps me going through the day, and those therapy sessions. It's what keeps me going through the boring weeks and months, it's what keeps me sane.
I parked up and quickly got out of the car, not wanting to waste any more time. The elevator was broken in our apartment block, so it seemed to take forever to walk up the seven flights of stairs. When I eventually got up to our floor, I walked down the hall towards our door, exchanging friendly hello's with neighbours walking past. Relief washed over me when I finally reached the door, and walked inside the apartment. I was so eager to see Eden and kiss her tender, plump lips, and play with her beautiful rich brown hair. Unlocking the door, I shouted her name to let her know I was home. No reply.
"Hello?" She must be out somewhere, grocery shopping or some shit. I hope she comes home soon. I decided to start making dinner, seeing as it was nearing dinner time and she would be hungry when she gets back. Nachos, her favourite. I put the mince in a pan along with some spices to give it a hint of flavour. In the mean time, I decided to watch tv to pass the time. Flipping through the channels, I settled on a news channel. I was just flicking through my phone, when something on the tv caught my attention.
Today, on One News we bring you to the site of a burning house, the fire brigade just arrived and are trying to put the fire out. We are currently unaware whether there is people in the house or not, and once the fire is out it will be investigated how to the fire started...
I thought for a second that I recognised the burning house and the area surrounding it, but I was being stupid, of course I didn't know who's house it was, I mean what were the chances? Eden would be home any minute now and we can chill out and snuggle down to watch movies, whilst we are eating our nachos. NACHOS! I ran over to the pan and quickly turned off the hob, only a little bit of mince was stuck to the bottom of the pan, still edible. I put the pan on low to keep the mince heated and left it to set out when Eden gets home. I walked back over to the couch and sat down, my focus going back to the news channel which had flicked back to the house on fire story. It's then that they showed two female bodies being dragged out of the house. The long blonde hair cascading down her back, which were no longer silky and rich as usual but strewn all over her dirty face, messy and unruly. A pretty face, covered in soot making the face unidentifiable, but I had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomachs I started to panic, hoping I was seeing things or that someone had the same colour hair as my Eden. She's probably nice and safe in a supermarket or something, debating over Coco Pops and Nutri-Grain. Right? Yes, she's probabl-
My thoughts got cut off when my phone started ringing, a wave of dread rippling through my body, making my legs go weak. Warily, I picked it up."Hello?"
"Hi, is this Harry Styles?"
"Um, yes?" I was getting sick to the stomach now, unsure of what is happening, my head spinning.
"I'm sorry Sir, but your partner is Eden Mannering, correct?" With my absence of a reply, he took that as a yes and carried on speaking.
"I'm very sorry to say sir, but Eden was the household of her friend Shane Smith when the house caught on fire. The cause of the fire is thought to be the oven catching on fire. Shane is now being rushed to hospital and we are unsure whether she will make it or not."
"An-and Eden?" I stuttered, afraid of the answer.
"She unfortunatley didn't make it. I am very sorry for your loss Sir. She is currently in Shacklemore Hospital. I-"
I cut him off, not wanting to hear more pity coming from the officers mouth, or further details of the fire. I'd heard enough.
"O-okay, thank you." I cut off the call, and my world suddenly came crashing down.
