It was an hour before midnight, and everyone was anticipating the enormous show of celebration fireworks that came every year, courtesy of the Hephaestus cabin. 

“Please don’t blow up the camp,” Jessie Ollo, daughter of Apollo, prayed, as we drove off to New York in Percy’s car.

Or as he said, his ‘baby’. Now if you’re wondering why we are going to New York, it’s because we really wanted to see that big ball thing at Time Square.

“You know when I went into your car, I noticed a scratch on the door,” Emily Des, Nico’s maid, remarked.

Yeah, you heard right. The son of Hades has a maid, you got a problem? Take it up with Lord Hades.

“What!? Where!?” Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon, said, glancing out to window.

“Percy, the road!” Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena, yelled pointing at a car in front of us.

“Just kidding,” Emily grinned.

Percy shot Emily a glare that made them think ‘if looks could kill’. She shot him back a sweet smile and a thumbs up. After driving for quite some time, it was five minutes before midnight and they had finally arrived in New York. Emily, Jessie, and Christina Res, daughter of Ares, excited ran to the Time Square ball, Christina shoving anybody who got in their way. Nico di Angelo, son of Hades, chuckled at their strange behavior, well strange for Americans anyways. But whatever, since the three were Canadians. Four minutes and fifty seconds later, the five half-bloods, six including mortal Emily began counting down.

“10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1!” they said, cheering as the ball dropped.

Percy gave Annabeth one of those passionate kisses that made the younger kids turn around and fake puke.

“Ew...” Emily said, gagging.

Because they’re just immature like that. Christina and Jessie had one of those tight friendly hugs where Emily was unfortunately excluded.

“Hey, what about me?” Emily whinned.

“G-go hug that dude!” Jessie said, pointing at some random stranger.

“I don’t even know him,” Emily said, making weird hand motions.

“Then...go hug Nico!” Jessie said, giving Emily a slight push towards the clueless half-blood.

Nico turned around and said, “Did you just say my name?”

“Eh, it’s New Year’s,” Emily shrugged, dipping Nico into one of those kisses that the guy usually did to the girl.

Considering Emily was shorter than Nico, she was 5”5 and he was 5”7, it looked quite awkward indeed, but that didn’t stop Christina from filming the whole thing. Not even a picture, but literally filming the whole kiss. Approximately five minutes late, they stopped for air. Emily gave a dramatic whoosh for air, being who she was while Nico stood there absolutely stunned, not really sure what to say or do. Jessie started clapping loudly, much to their embarrassment. She was going by Christina, then followed Percy and Annabeth who had resurfaced from their kiss right during the middle of Nico’s. Soon for some reason, everyone joined. Much to Emily’s horror, Christina had uploaded the clip of the kiss onto one of the giant screens surrounding them, being the computer geek she was, she probably hacked into it. The things Ares children could do when they set their minds to it...

Annabeth snorted when she saw Nico’s face. The group had never seen something so red. Nico’s face was the color of a ripe tomato, becoming redder and redder each second, if possible.

“Woo!” Emily yelled, breaking the tense silence. “Lets party!”

“What the Hades?” Christina said.

“Shouldn’t you be affected by this?” Jessie asked, pointing at the extremely embarrassed Nico.

“Nope,” Emily said, popping the ‘p’. “We’re not going to remember this in the morning anyways.”

“That’s what you think,” Christina mumbled under her breath.

The six young adults headed off to Percy’s apartment which was conveniently located close-by. When we went there, Christina brought out the drinks. While normally, adults would have wine, that apparently for Christmas because what Christina had was hard liquor, the stuff you would get drunk on with one glass.

“Whoa, whoa,” Percy said, coming over, “I can’t let you guys drink that, you’re not legal yet.”

“In Canada the legal drinking age is 19 and last time we checked, we were 19,” Jessie, Christina, and Emily replied shortly.

Jessie didn’t actually drink, but she felt the need to support her friends since she knew that a certain maid was quite into liquor. As in having a secret compartment in a certain half-blood’s cabin full of certain alcoholic drinks. Not saying who, but you should know.

“Just a little bit,” Percy muttered, taking a flask of whiskey, even though New York’s legal age was 21.

The next hour was full of girls getting drunk, except for Jessie who was sugar-high. Percy took advantage of this situation and decided to make-out with Annabeth for a while. Nico was quite sober, considering he was only holding a full glass of vodka, which he was carefully taking sips from. After all, if Emily could give him that type of kiss while she was sober, who knew what’d she do when she was fully drunk? Nico was not going to take that chance, thank you very much. The six of them partied until their bodies finally gave in to exhaustion and collapsed on the floor.

The next morning, Jessie woke up completely fine as she began to make breakfast. Or scrambled eggs since that was all that Percy had in his fridge was cheap beer and eggs. Percy and Annabeth woke up with a slight hang over, but what was more embarrassing was that their bodies were tangled together on the small couch Percy owned. Nico sat on a chair, watching the remaining two sleeping girls. He had slight bags under his eyes since he decided he wouldn’t risk being attacked in his sleep. That seemed like an overreaction, but he didn’t give a damn. Christina woke up after, with a yawn and appeared creepily fine after the little amount of alcohol she drank that got her amazingly drunk.

“Jessie! Can I draw on Emily’s face?” Christina asked, reaching for a pen nearby.

“Christina...only if you video tape it,” Jessie said smirking.

Christina bent down to Emily’s face, only for her arm to be stopped by Emily.

“Don’t touch me. I’ve been awake the whole time,” Emily groaned, opening her eyes. “I just like staying down for hours after. Fucking hangover’s killing me.”

“Then you shouldn’t have drunk that much,” Annabeth scolded, reaching for some grounded coffee beans in Percy’s cupboard.

“Oh well, it’s all the past. Happy New Year’s,” Emily grumbled, standing up only to crash back down.

“Some coffee will help,” Annabeth offered.

“I/She don’t/doesn’t like coffee,” Emily and Nico said at the exact time.

“Aw...now you guys even talk at the same time,” Jessie said giving a suggestive wink.

“I’m not going to have sex with him, if that’s what you’re suggesting,” Emily said, finally standing up properly.

The four half-bloods were staring at Emily with the ‘what the fuck’ face while Nico had his face turned away, probably to hide the blush that threatened to creep over his face again.

“She said the ‘s’ word,” Christina pointed out.

“I’m going to the bathroom,” Nico said, going for a quick escape.

“Hopefully to take a cold shower,” Jessie called.

Nico just walked away faster, leaving Christina and Percy snickering, Jessie and Annabeth laughing, and Emily with a giant hangover.
