"See ya tomorrow." Emmett Manuel's friend hollered from the driver's side of his yellow mustang.
"Yeah, see ya." Manuel said the ghost of a smile on his face as the car sped away. Finally. He thought.
As he walked to his room he let out a tired sigh and slumped on his bed. Humph! The day had felt too long for him. But no matter how long it had been, for once he felt partly at peace.
He punched the air with excitement. He wished that everything would be over soon, he just couldn't wait. Hope! He felt like sending a white rose to the members of the Frils but thought against it for fear of any imaginary thoughts occupying their frilly minds.
Well he'd found a partial solution, now things would be a lot easier, he didn't have to sabotage anything to get the job done, all he needed was a bit of damnation.
A few days gone by now, he had been so worried about how to get it done without getting into trouble. They said desperation clouded one's mind, and now he would bet his mind was fogged up completely.
Being away from his mom and sister, Manuel sometimes felt lonely but not always, his jock buddies were mostly with him if not them, Max and hell was he grateful.
He had a job which paid moderately, the best job for someone like himself. Now he had to either manage to complete the task at hand or loose his job as a whole.
Before he had found a solution neither was a win for him but ....the frils had just made things easy.
Manuel took a comforting, relaxing warm bath and whistled a tune his mom usually sang. His thoughts run wild with possibilities.
All he needed was to have her close enough and let nature do the rest. Ha!! Hmm oddly enough he was sure this was his first time spotting her ." Where have you been all my life?" He muttered dramatically to himself .
It would have been nice playing a good trick or two on the man that had fired his dad and forced him to turn into the monster he had become.
"okay okay Manuel no sad thoughts at least, not tonight."he smiled.
He put on his black hoodie and sweat pants. He was going to see his mom and little sister. And for the first time since all this started he didn't have to pretend to be happy, he genuinely was.
He walked for miles then ducked behind a fence, jumped a few walls, and finally came face to face with the back fence of his father's mansion.
Pulling the hood closely around his face and looking around to make sure no one was looking, he opened a secret gap in the fence. It was so close to a huge shrub that the hole was barely noticeable and that Manuel was sure of. Cause if it wasn't his dad would have been frozen meat at the morgue by now.
He emerged from the bush, leaves in his hands. Shaking it off he followed the familiar path to the backyard. His father would be holding his routine meeting with his gang, and would care less about his poor weak wife and daughter.
Manuel could see the outline of two figures in the dark night. For a moment he felt pain and anger surge through him but shifted quickly to the happy, courageous some his Mama expected him to be.
As he drew closer, he engulfed them a protective hug. His father had rejected them, all of them but he was gonna take care of them from now onwards, no matter what.
He could feel small sobs from his sister. He continued to hold them for a little longer before letting go.
He spoke to them for sometime and finally when it was time to leave he was skeptic and sad as he caressed his Mama's cheek and held his sister at his side he assured his mama confidently, "It will all be over soon Mama, trust me." he said then sneaked out the same way he came in.
As he left, all he could think of was fulfilling what what he had promised his Mama:
FREEDOM.
