✨Prologue ✨
I blink several times, trying to adjust to the bright light. My eyelids feel like lead. It's all Roman's fault that I'm in this mess. You'll pay for this, you bastard. Just let me get back on my feet and I'll make you regret ever crossing me! I scan the room, looking for a way out. My head throbs like a drumbeat in my ears. I recognize the place and panic rises in my throat. "Oh no, not again–"
His voice cut through my terrified rambling, the voice I never wanted to hear again.
"Welcome back home, my love."
I whipped my head towards him, unable to think clearly. I knew what he would do to me as a punishment and I shuddered. The only word that escaped my lips was a faint whisper. "Max."
His face was twisted in a cruel smile that chilled me to the bone. But what made me gasp was his right hand. He held something that triggered a flash of painful memories. He did it on purpose, to taunt me.
That was my signal, folks. I was in deep trouble. All the courage I had mustered a few minutes ago evaporated and all that remained was fear for myself.
