My breath caught in my throat, the world spinning as she smiled at me.
"Did you miss me, my love?" She mused, cupping my face.
Her hands were warm against my skin.
Real.
She was real.
I took her hand in my mine, my blood pounding in my ears.
"Annette." Her name fell from my lips, all the air knocked out of me.
She laughed; a lovely sound like rang through my head.
"Yes my love, it's me. It's really me." She whispered, wiping away a tear I hadn't even noticed.
"Like her?" Damon's voice tore me out of my trance, filled with amusement and smugness.
His finger drew lazy circles on Raeden's thigh, his smirk self satisfied as he watched me interact with Annette.
Annette.
Her name echoed through my mind, opening painful scabs.
I stood, pushing her away from me.
"Who is she?" I managed, barely able to tear my gaze away from her.
She smiled softly, reaching for me again.
I stepped back.
"She's Annette, Brother. The same one who died all those dreadful years ago." Damon grinned. Raeden watched me with wide eyes, confusion etched into her features.
"This is not funny, brother." I snapped.
"It's not meant to be. She's not some sort of elaborate joke - she's Annette."
"That's impossible!" Lucas snarled.
"And yet here she stands!" Damon growled. He stood abruptly and Raeden whimpered as she hit the floor.
Everyone's attention instantly went to her, except for Damon and Annette's.
"This is the real Annette, brother. The same one we- you lost. I've brought her back." Damon went on, stepping past Raeden.
Lucas rushed to her side, but she refused to meet his gaze, her cheeks blood red.
"How?" Was all I asked.
Damon shrugged. "Does it matter? She's here. And she's all yours."
I tore my gaze away from Raeden and my brothers to Damon, my brows shooting yo in surprise.
"You're giving Annette to me? What right do you have to?"I questioned.
"I am not his, my love. I am yours and only yours," she cooed, once more at my side.
My heart melted at the sound of her voice, butterflies stirring in my stomach as her gorgeous eyes sparkled at me.
My beautiful Annette, the first woman I'd ever loved - was alive.
I reached out, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear.
"Annette." I breathed.
"Axsel," Lucas snapped,"You can't really believe that's her. It's probably some look alike Damon got off the street."
"I am not from the street, little pup. I am Annette of house Van Helsing and I am as true as a knife is deadly to a man," Annette said sternly, her gaze fixed on Lucas.
He recoiled, but kept his head held high.
"She's a gift, Dracula. A way of saying thank you for my dear Raeden here." Damon snapped his fingers and Raeden scrambled up, instantly at his side.
His arm snakes around her waist and she froze, fear dancing in her eyes.
"I... don't know what to say." I admitted. My fingers entertained with Annettes and she squeezed my hand reassuringly.
Dante rolled his eyes. "Thank you would suffice. Then you and your mutts may leave. I've grown bored of your company."
My brothers tensed at the command but I nodded once.
"Thank you, brother. I am forever in your debt." I forced.
"Axsel we can't-" Lucas started.
"We are leaving." I said with finality.
He shut his mouth, but sent a glare my way.
"Goodbye brother mine. Have fun," Damon smiled.
Annette smiled up at me and I felt myself fall in love all over again.
