The first time I met her was a mistake. I had been running from hunters and she had protected me, even though it would have put her in harms way.
I peeked around the corner, cursing under my breath.
"He went this way! Follow him!" The lead hunter screamed, pointing in the opposite direction.
"Are they looking for you?" A sweet voice asked from behind me.
My eyes widened and I whipped around, surprised that a human had gotten so close without me noticing.
My eyes glanced over the girl, over her light colored hair, Golden-amber eyes and fair skin.
"What?" I asked, hoping she just left and turning back to the street corner.
"Well you're hiding and they're looking for a man with gold eyes. Yours are gold," she pointed out.
I turned back to her, noticing how the dress she wore was sleeveless, showing off her lovely shoulders and neck and how her hair was done up elegantly.
"You should not be out so late at night," I replied, trying to ignore her as a yell came from around the corner.
"I can hide you," She said suddenly.
"I have no reason to hide."
"Yet here you are, hiding."
I stopped, considering her words. "Will you really hide me? I'm a vampire you know."
"I do know. Your gold eyes gave it away. And yes, I will help you," She said, turning swiftly on her heel.
I regarded her and then followed. She lead me to a fairly big sized house and opened the door. She ushered me in, shuttling the door behind herself.
"Hunters now days are so persistent," she sighed, sitting down.
I glanced around, taking in her living space. It was well furnished.
"You're rich," I said, looking at her skeptically,"So why help me and risk losing it?"
She laughed and I felt my heart skip a beat, it was as fragile and as beautiful as glass.
"I am not rich. My father is. I wanted to make a living for myself, but women are no good in this century. Men seem to think all we are good for is to cook and clean," she said, shaking her head.
"That is how women have always been. They have always stayed at home, cleaning and cooking for their husbands. That is how it has been for centuries and how it will be for the next centuries," I replied.
"It most certainly will not be like that! You'll see, women will become great and equal to all men," she protested, standing up.
I scoffed at this. "As someone who has lived for centuries, I can tell you that will never happen."
"You men are all so arrogant. It makes me sick," she said, storming away.
I bit my lip, feeling bad for making her mad. "What are you going to do to change how women are?" I asked, following her.
She stopped, facing me. "I'm going to be a knight."
I burst out laughing. "You? A knight? That's ridiculous!"
"You may be a vampire," she said, crossing her arms,"But you are essentially a bastard."
"I made a mistake, two centuries ago. And it cost Annette her life," I said, looking up,"I will not do the same for Raeden."
