-John-

I sat at our coffee table. I hadn't even bothered to take my coat off. I fiddled with the teacup absently as I thought about Sherlock.

It had been four hours since he kicked me out of the crime scene, and I hadn't stopped thinking about it. What had I done wrong? Was he angry at me?

I'd catalogued a list of everything if done in the past 24 hours, and nothing (beside the awkward conversation with Donna he overheard) would have upset him.

Aside from that, he was ignoring all of my texts. With a growl of frustration I finished my tea and checked my phone again.

Nothing.

I jumped when I heard a knock on the door. Donna appeared, looking hesitant.

'Hey John is Sherlock home?' she asked, clenching her hands together.

I shook my head.

'Hey are you alright John?'

I looked at her and nodded harshly.

'No you're not... let's go get dinner!'

I shook my head and mumbled 'no... no I'm quite alright.'

'John you are coming to dinner with me,' she said sternly, reaching out to grab my arm.

I sighed and pocketed my phone.

Half an hour later we sat in a small diner, Donnas eyes glued to mine.

'John where's Sherlock?' she asked, munching on some fries.

'At a case.'

'And why aren't you with him? I thought you were a team.'

I looked down at the table.

'He didn't want me there. He told me to leave.'

Donna stopped eating and placed a hand on mine.

'I don't understand why he'd do that. I guess we should ask him right?' I nodded, still not meeting her eyes.

'Why is it bothering you this much John? Why do you care?'

My eyes snapped up to meet hers and I clenched my jaw.

'Because, I told you this morning, I care about him. A lot... and I thought that we were a team. And it hurts when he tells me to bugger off. It hurts. He's never done it and I don't know what I've done wrong.'

She patted my hand.

'I think we should ask him why John. Maybe he's got a good reason.'

I nodded and we ate in silence.

'Have you told him how you feel?'

I thought for a few moments before responding.

'There's no point. He's told me heaps of times that he is married to his job. I don't think he's ever had a boyf... anyone he cared about.'

She slowly nodded and smiled at me.

'But he's got people who care about them. And we- the people who care about him have got a job to do.'

I raised my eyebrows at her.

'Mum told me that his birthday is soon. And I think it's our job to plan a party!' she grinned at me.

'No.. no Sherlock would hate...'

'Come on John it'll be fun! We can surprise him! Okay so I've got a few ideas already...'

As she continued talking enthusiastically, I had only one thought-

How the hell does she expect to surprise Sherlock Holmes.
