Catherine's POVI lay on the bed frame and turned off my obnoxious alarm off. I groan as I gradually make my way to the bathroom, this was the only part I dislike about my job, waking up at 6 am every morning.
I tried to brush my teeth when I get into the bathroom with my eyes barely opened, and I was exhausted. I just want to go back to bed, but that was impossible.
Oh, you are probably wondering who I am.
My name is Catherine Mayhem and, unlike my last name Mayhem, meaning a person who causes trouble, I am quite the opposite.
I am a perfect daughter, sister, and friend. I am 22 years old and a nurse. I love my job very much, I like helping others and taking care of people.
That is enough about me, you will learn more about me as time moves on.
I hop into the bath and take a shower, I had merely an hour to get ready for work. I wipe off the water from my body and step into my closet and take a pair of scrubs out of the thousand that I own. I pull my hair up into a clean bun after drying it.
I peeped at the clock, hoping I still had time to grab breakfast. I can't go a day without eating breakfast, it was essential to me.
Fortunate for me, I had about 25 minutes before I had to head out, I grab my handbag, shoes and unplug my phone from the socket.
I made my way to the kitchen and start making a quick breakfast, since I did not have a lot of time to spare.
Because I hate coffee, I settled on hot chocolate with bacon and toast. I eat and go through my phone, replying to a couple of text messages.
I finish my breakfast in less than 10 minutes, I dropped the dishes into the sink, grab my stuff and leave.
Shortly, I arrive at the Grace Hospital, a smile automatically appears on my face as I step out of my car and start walking into the building, ready to start the day.
I say hello to some colleagues I meet on my way to the nurse's station.
" Hey girl, what's up?", I approach a tired-looking Mila.
Mila Da Silva, my best friend, and roommate since I began college, we have been inseparable since then. We got into the same nursing school and got to work in the same hospital after nursing school.
" Why are you so cheerful and bright at 7 am? ", Mila complains.
" Well, I am here to free you from your shift, so you can go home and rest", I say while putting stuff away and getting ready to start working.
Even though Mila and I work in the same hospital, we decided to have separate shifts, so we can take turns in tidying the house and doing the other tasks. We also did not like the thought of no one staying in the apartment at night.
" Bye Cat, see you at home ", Mila tells as she hurries out of the building, longing to go home.
I start my regular rounds and check on my patients, I always get happy when I see my patients getting better, even though I would miss them.
I would rather want them to get better and get out of the hospital bed.
The day moved quickly, without realizing, my shift had ended.
I slowly drag my feet as I make my way to my car, ready to go home.
After a 12-hour shift, all I wanted to do was sleep.
I unlock the front door to see Mila laying on the couch fast asleep with the TV still playing and a bag of chips in her hands.
God, this girl.
I was so exhausted that I decided to ignore her and go to my room. I take a quick shower, ate a sandwich, and jumped right into bed.
I could care less for dinner.
I wake up around 1 am, after a long nap. I walk into the kitchen to see Mila cooking something, at 1 am.
" What are you cooking at 1 am? ", I ask Mila.
" OMG, you scared me and I'm cooking food what else?", she responds as she continues cooking.
I step closer to the stove to see her making noodles, and they looked so good, my stomach started to grumble.
" I made enough for both of us", Mila says as she caught my stomach make funny noises.
I grin at her and walk to the table and wait for the food.
Soon afterward, she appears with two bowls full of noodles to the table. I thank her and start digging into the food.
" So, you are off this weekend right?" Mila says after a while.
" Yeah, why? " I ask, not taking my eyes off my food.
" Let's go clubbing, Saturday night, its been a while ", She says with a worried smile.
" Okay, sure" I say to her surprise.
" That was simple, you mostly say no", she says doubtful.
" Okay fine, I won't go anymore," I say while getting up from the table.
" No No, please I take it back", she pleads.
I laugh and drop my bowl into the sink.
I was not the sociable kind. I rarely go to clubs and parties, but I have been under a lot of stress from work, so I don't mind clubbing to release the stress, and Mila looked excited to go to the club, so why not.
" Goodnight Mila", I say as I go into my room.
" Goodnight Cat, you are the best ", I hear her call from behind.
I roll my eyes at her extra self. I just agreed to go to the club with her, not give her one my kidneys.
I lay on my bed and catch up with the Prodigal Son, since I never got time to watch the new episodes.
I doze off after watching TV for about 2 hours. I was still tired from work.
