Of course there was still the minor problem of transportation...
“It’s really not very far from here,” Todd argued.
I rolled my eyes, shooting a knowing glance at him.
“Come on – trust me. It’s about a twenty minute drive. If we start walking now, we’ll get there in no time.”
I groaned. It’s not as if I was really in walking condition.
I cast a glance at Jack that screamed, ‘Help Me’, and he gave me a shrug before clearing his throat.
“Todd’s right – I don’t think boosting another car is a good idea at this point. The cops know we’re in Harrington or at least close by so they’ll be keeping an eye out on suspicious vehicles.”
“Fine,” I grumbled, crossing my arms across my chest. Of course it made sense, but that didn’t make it any better.
“Hey,” Jack mumbled softly as he touched a hand lightly under my chin.
I gulped as I looked up, biting my lip as I did so.
“I’m fine,” I repeated, tearing my chin out of his grip.
“Would you rather us tell Todd’s parents where we are and risk getting picked up by the cops?”
“No,” I sighed, “I’m sorry. I’m being selfish.”
I continued forward, trying to catch back up with Todd though each step reverberated painfully through my muscles. My stomach was faintly growling and knotted in pain.
Damn fast my fast catabolism.
However as I continued walking, I yelped when all of a sudden my feet left the ground.
“What the Hell are you doing?” I shouted at Jack more in surprise than in anger.
“Carrying you?” He rolled his eyes.
“No shit, Sherlock,” I graciously returned his eye roll, “Why exactly did you feel the need to carry me?”
“Every time you walk, you grimace in pain. You probably need a doctor as it is – I don’t want to be the one responsible for making it worse.”
“Oh…Well a twenty minute drive isn’t that far…”
“A ten minute drive on the highway is about ten miles; a twenty minute drive is at least twice that depending on traffic. Do the math; it could be awhile.”
Walking speed in around four miles per hours so…“So about five hours?”
Jack shrugged his shoulders, “I’m not the math genius, nerd.”
“Hey,” I pushed his chest.
He chuckled while resituating me in his arms so that my weight was more evenly distributed between his arms.
“Isn’t it going to be hard to carry me like this for so long?”
“Yeah, but then I guess I’ll just switch to giving you a piggy back ride or some shit like that.”
“Todd can’t take a turn?” I grinned playfully.
“Nah,” Jack teased, “a Princess shouldn’t be allowed on her feet. Knowing Todd, he might get excited by the sight of a passing butterfly and drop you.”
“Whatever you say…”
“Hey, if you try and pin some sentimental shit on me, I’ll drop you right now.” Jack warned.
