It took six weeks for Simon to come back to the Institute. To be honest by the third week, he was climbing the walls and Jace had to move in temporarily to take his mind off his boredom.
Jonathan Morgenstern had not spoken to anyone since his capture. He had been transported to a Maximum security prison in Washington awaiting his trial. Simon had thought of going to see him just to see if he could make him talk but Imogen nixed that idea.
The morning of his return to the Institute, Simon woke up alone to a note pn the nightstand.
Simon,
Breakfast is in the kitchen. See you at work,
J.
He was still adjusting to the idea that he was dating someone he worked with. He was still on the fence about his feelings on that.
They were waiting for him to return before Jace started his training as an operative of the Institute. They still had a lot of work to do concerning the child trafficking mission Jonathan and Sebastian organized.
The Institute found the children that had been kidnapped and used for God knew what. Simon had an idea but he wasn't talking. Jace had asked him a few times what his relationship with Jonathan had been and Simon had just told him the basics. There was no way he was going to share the horrors of his past with his...
Boyfriend?
It was also discovered that Morgenstern Enterprises had several investors funding the operation and Magnus was working hard to identify them.
"Welcome back, Lewis." Imogen said when he walked into her office. "How do you feel?"
"Ready to kick ass." Simon said, with a grin.
She nodded, solemnly. "I'm glad."
She asked him to sit down and he did, frowning at her expression. "Is everything OK?"
She didn't respond immediately. Then she said. "Simon, I am going to say this once. I know Jace is adamant about joining your team and nothing I say is going to change his mind, so I am telling you; you guard my boy with your life. If anything happens to him, I swear you won't like what I'll do. I will destroy you."
Simon blinked at her before he grinned. "You can't destroy what has already been destroyed, Imogen." He stood up. "I like Jace. I can see myself falling in love with him someday, but I will not be threatened by you or anyone concerning him. He is a grown man and can make his own decisions."
Imogen gaped at him.
"That being said," Simon continued. "He is a member of my team an I always protect my team. So just do your job and I'll do mine."
She studied him for a few long seconds before nodding. "Good to have you back." She smiled.
"Missed me, didn't you?" Simon smiled back.
She rolled her eyes before frowning again. "There has been a development."
***
Never send a man to do a woman's job.
Clarissa Fairchild-Morgenstern stood in her Los Angeles penthouse, looking out of the large window. She was dressed in a shirt green dress that matched her eyes and her red hair in a braid that stopped in the middle of her back. Her brother's henchman, Hodge stood a few feet behind her, awaiting instructions.
She had gone to see Jonathan in prison but he barely said a word to her. He looked dead. She had left, disgusted.
He was weak, had always been weak.
"I knew he wouldn't be able to succeed." She said. "But, thank you, Hodge. You may leave. I 'll call you when I'm ready to go down to New York."
After he left, she looked at the file on the table. There were several, but the one on top was the most important.
You better watch out, Simon Lewis.
By the time she was done with them, Daddy will be so proud of her.
THE END?
Finally! I ended it. There may or may not be a sequel, I'm still on the fence on that. I apologize for any mistakes, plot holes and what not. I almost gave up on this story a couple of times (or more) but I'm glad I have finished it.
Enjoy!
