Everywhere I turn, every street I cross, every darkened house I pass, I get the same feeling. The same shiver and hot breath down my spine. It doesn't matter how I feel because every time I look around, there is no one. It sent goosebumps up my arms. Am I being too paranoid? I take one more look around before rushing home.
I get home with no issues. This shouldn't come to a huge shock, I mean I didn't see anyone. Tiredness falls upon me as I stagger my way to my room. I've been shopping all day for a new uniform and equipment, mentally and physically preparing myself for the new school I will be attending.
Let's go back a little.
....~....
My parents began another argument and unfortunately, this time things got violent. My mother grabbed a bottle, slamming it into my father's head. As droplets of blood dripped from the impact, he reached for a frying pan, readying himself to wack it across my mother's face. I managed to lock the kitchen knives and other cutlery away so they wouldn't kill themselves. Fear and adrenaline took over my body as I ran to my mother, taking the impact of the frying pan instead of her. My frail body slammed to the floor, while a bruise took over the left side of my face. Shocked by what they just saw my parents stared intently at the fragile being that they caused pain to. Mother and Father stopped fighting and slowly walked in opposite directions. My father walked to their room, while my mother walked into the living room. I stayed sat on the floor pain shooting through my body and face and just watched the eerily quiet scene unfold in front of me. My father returned to the living room, suitcase in hand. He places it by the door and walks over to me, crouches in front of me and pulls me into a warm embrace. Lifting me off the floor he takes me to the sofa and lays me down so I can rest.
"I'm deeply sorry, you will always be my little princess. I'm ashamed of myself for hurting you and I think it's best for me and your mother to spend some time apart..." He takes a deep breath before continuing. "When all the smoke clears and I feel it's safe, I will return to take you away from this nightmare."
He turns to face my mother, they lock eyes and stay that way for a few minutes before he grabs his suitcase and leaves. My head starts to ache and I begin feeling dizzy. My eyes begin to shut until darkness takes over me.
A loud noise abruptly pulls me from my slumber. I wait for my eyes to become clear before I realise I'm in my room. I take a look as to where the sound came from, to see my mother cramming my clothes into a suitcase.
"M-mother." My tired voice says barely above a whisper. My mother manages to hear my small voice and turns her eyes towards me giving me her best fake smile.
"Hello love, I think it's best if I send you to your sisters until your father comes to get you... We wouldn't want any more problems would we now..." My mother slowly stroked my sore cheek. It started to creep me out.
My mother dropped me off at my sisters, who was waiting outside with a genuine smile on her face.
"Little sister, it's been so long I've missed you so much!" She pulls me in for a hug as my mother forcefully throws my bags out of her car. My mother and sister send daggers at each other before my mother makes an overly dramatic exit, speeding off down the road.
"Hey sis," My sister turns to me, her smile returning to her face.
"I haven't finished setting up your room so while I'm doing that, why don't you go explore the neighbourhood?"
I look up at her, shine a fake smile, nod and head off into a random direction.
I take in the view, locate the shops, the schools, the park, and a few houses that stand out to me. 'This place doesn't look so bad!' I think to myself as I turn the corner, smacking right into someone's chest. This action sent me plummeting to the floor while the other person seemed unaffected. I rubbed my lower back as a pair of hands came into view. I stared up into a perfect set of emerald green eyes with a hint of yellow near the pupil of one. This guy's messy brown hair blew in the wind and a fake smile spread across his face.
