Arthur walks into Thomas' office; a worried look on his face as his brother catches sight of his entrance. "Any word?" Thomas asks while a cigarette hangs between his two lips. A long sigh escapes Arthur's mouth before he shakes his head.
"Nothing, nobody knows who would've sent that or who knows about her."
Thomas takes a deep breath before his two palms come crashing onto the top of his desk, sending papers flying in every direction before he stands up and kicks the chair. "God damnit!" He shouts; anger and worry engulfing his being as he continues to stress over who would be threatening Faith's existence.
Arthur sighs, "Look, Tom, it's going to be alright. We'll find who se-"
"Do not tell me it's going to be alright!" Thomas shouts at his brother before tossing his cigarette into the fireplace, "Do not fucking say everything will be alright!"
Arthur moves to the wall, leaning against it. The man watches Thomas closely, unsure of what his brother is going to do next. "We're going to find the bastard, I know we will, Tom!" Arthur says, shouting at his brother in hopes of catching his attention and making him focus on the outcome versus the current situation they find themselves in.
Thomas walks over to Arthur, his chest heaving. "She won't even fucking look at me! They're threatening my girl; they want to fucking kill her because of me, and you want to tell me it's all going to be okay!?" Thomas screams, his body shaking from the rage growing in his stomach. Arthur winces at his brother's anger before hearing the office door creak open as feet step across the floorboards.
"Thomas."
Arthur looks over to the heaven-sent woman; her long auburn hair falling to the small of her back as they curl and wave in various directions. Her light eyes looking over to him, and her rosy lips pairing with her fair skin. Arthur has only heard of the woman; he hasn't been able to meet her yet as she's been hiding in her bedroom or the library to avoid everyone at all costs. A silk emerald green dress is wrapped around her body and the long sleeves drape while the train runs behind her.
Thomas stops in his tracks and looks over to Faith in shock. It's the first time she's spoken to him in over a week, and the anger in his body suddenly disappears. "Faith?" He calls out to her; his voice unsteady, almost thinking she was a ghost and would disappear at any given moment.
Faith walks over to Arthur and sets her hand on his arm before nodding, "Please give us a moment, Arthur." She asks the brother, a small smile on her face. Arthur nods before walking past her and allowing the scent of cinnamon and vanilla to enter his nostrils. Faith turns to look at Thomas; her eyes red from her lack of sleep. "Why must you treat your brother like that? He's trying to help you." She asks Thomas.
Thomas looks at her in shock, "Is everything okay?" He asks, wanting to know why she's decided that now is the time to speak to him.
Faith chuckles, "Of course it's not okay, but I couldn't let you treat your brother like that when he's going out of his way to help us find whoever sent that letter."
"What's changed?" Thomas asks, moving closer to the woman. He reaches out to touch her and for a moment, she lets his hand linger before moving away from him.
Faith's eyes look sad, and the sense of fear has left her body. "I've realized that the only person who can protect me is myself, and if I need to turn into someone willing to take a life to safe my own, I shall."
Thomas' eyebrows knit together, and he shakes his head, "I'll protect you; I will until I'm six feet under, I promise, Faith, please." Thomas nearly begs for the woman's reassurance, but she's in no place to feel safe.
"I know you'll try your best, Thomas, but I must mould into this world I've been placed into. I knew that by starting this with you that I'd be placed into a difficult place; a place unlike my home, a place full of death and violence, crime and lies. I've come to peace with needing to adapt, and as much as I want you to protect me, they're doing this because of you."
Thomas stares at the woman, his heart feeling torn and confused by her gentleness in a moment of such chaos. "I'm sorry." Thomas murmurs, "For this, for everything. I should've never stayed with you for as long as I did. I shouldn't have engaged in this relationship, I shouldn't have brought you here."
Faith shakes her head, "I'm to blame as much as you are." She tells him, "I can't tell if it's regret, anger or fear that I'm feeling right now, but I think time will tell."
Thomas sighs, "Regret for us?" he needs reassurance; he needs to know what she's thinking and if her being here is against her wishes.
"Regret for this target on my back." She tells him, "One placed by the man I love." She moves closer to Thomas and wraps her arms around him; Thomas' breath shakes as she latches onto his body. His arms wrap tightly around her and he kisses her head.
"I love you, and I swear, this is going to get fixed as soon as possible. Nobody will hurt you, nobody will come close. I promise."
