Day 6

"Kiana."

"Kiana."

"Hey, Kiana."

I blink. I'm in front of the opened refrigerator, staring at the water bottles and food stocked inside.

I turn around. The ladder is still against the Campbell boxes and Gwen and Anna are giving me strange looks. "You're alright?"

I nod hesitantly as I stare at them. Had I imagined that entire situation? It looked too real, felt too real. My stomach sinks and my mind reels back to a few minutes ago.

I suck in a sharp breath and slam the fridge close. "Let's get the fuck out of here."

I walk quickly up the stairs. Just as I'm about to open the door, Gwen screams and falls down the steps.

I turn around to see Anna rushing to her side. "What happened?"

Gwen shivers, her eyes filled with terror. "I-I thought I saw something."

Anna's brows furrowed. She looks around and then at me. "Where?"

Gwen shrugs. "I don't... forget it. I'm fine." She pushes up on her palms and stand. She clearly isn't fine. Her hands are shaking and when I look down, I realize they're mirroring my own.

"You think she's got the virus?" Anna whispers to me after Jared calls for bedtime.

"Who?"

"Gwen."

We walk down the corridor, the lights from people's rooms guiding us. Hers is on the opposite side of mine, but I walk with her anyway.

"What makes you think that?"

"She saw something we didn't see. She could be hallucinating, which is a symptom of the virus." I stop in my tracks and she frowns at me.

"I should get back," I sat quickly. "Too scared to walk alone."

She nods. "Yeah, but do you think-"

"Maybe not," I say, my chest suddenly feeling tight. "She was probably being paranoid."

"Yeah maybe," Anna grumbles, unconvinced.

I offer a tight smile before walking back to my room.

The next day, all hell breaks loose.
