Alex's Point of View

I got home, plopped down on the couch, preparing to watch a few shows after a long day. Poor Riley. Maybe I should make her cookies or something. Her favorite used to be peanut butter cookies. I think I have the right stuff for it. She's still just as clumsy as in highschool, and she used to always need cheering up. I'm just being a good friend. But is this overstepping? No.

I grabbed the pan and the ingredients and started baking. I love making cookies, so I almost always had the supplies. I made the cookies and put them, waiting for the 12 minutes for them to break.

She'd appreciate this. I hope it would cheer her up. Just because we're exes doesn't mean we can't be friends. We are two completely different people now.

I got up when I heard the oven beep, and took them out of the oven. They looked great. I put them in a small plastic tin and got ready to drive to her house. This wasn't weird right? I'm not being weird. Just one friend making cookies for another friend.

I pulled into the same driveway I had pulled into an hour ago. I felt a wave of nervousness go through my body. Maybe this wasn't the best idea. No. No she knows your just friends.

I rang the door bell, smiling when I heard her shout "coming!" from the other side of the door. I heard the click of the crutches on the other side of the door before she swung it open. She was wearing her signature bed time look, some grey sweatpants and a black t-shirt.

"Hi!" She said excitedly, although a little out of breathe. "What brings you back to my humble home? Did I forget something in the car?"

"No, I um-I brought you cookies,"

"Really?" She asked, and her eyes lit up.

"Yeah, peanut butter," I said, smiling when I saw how much she was glowing.

"My favorite!" She said, before taking a second and then going, "you remembered."

"Yeah- I used to make them when you were upset and they'd light you up like a Christmas tree,"

"Yeah. Here come in real quick," She said, turning and starting towards the kitchen. You weren't supposed to be good at using crutches yet here she was.

"Nice place," I said, looking around. We walked into the kitchen and sat at the island.

"Yeah I saved up at lacrosse,"

"How's your leg?" I asked, taking a peek down at her boot.

"As good as it can be,"

"That's good I guess,"

"Yeah..." She said, her eyes trailing down to cookie container.

"Do you want one Riley?" I asked, and her gaze shot right up.

"Yeah-" She said sheepishly, but smiled when I handed her the container. "And would you mind picking me up and driving me home from work? I'm not allowed to drive with this until I can walk,"

"Yeah sure," I said, and it was followed by silence.

"Look I know we're exes but before that we were friends so I think that we can still be friends right?"

"Yeah of course," I replied. Just friends.
