Alex's Point of View
I tugged off my suit jacket and tried to decide what option would be suitable for a bar band gig. Leggings and a sweater would work right? Yeah that's fine. Right? I settled for a light blue sweater and black leggings, that was nice enough but still casual. Dressy casual.
I was picking Riley up at 6, and their gig started at 7:30. I pulled into Riley's driveway at 5:57 and honked the horn before I got out to see if she needed help. She opened the door, called walking out in one of her casual outfits. She was wearing ripped blue skinny jeans, a plain grey shirt, and a black and white varsity jacket. She had a grey adidas backpack on, which she explained had water, guitar picks (in bags of course), her phone, and her wallet.
"Shouldn't you, ya know...have a guitar?" I asked, and she laughed.
"James picked it up earlier so I wouldn't have to worry about it,"
"Oh...makes sense," The awkward silence followed, and I watched Riley reach and turn on the radio. The bad pop music filled the silence, and I watched Riley take her phone out.
We pulled into the pub at 6:15 and walked towards the entrance. I could feel the excitement flowing off of her. I opened the door for her so that she could make her way through, and we walked into the pub together. The place was pretty crowded, more than half the tables were filled and the all the bar seats were taken.
"Riley!" A girl called, waving once before walking over. She was about my height, with blonde hair that just reached her shoulder. She was extremely pretty, and considering her excitement towards Riley I'm going to assume that she's Emma.
"Emma! How're you?" She said, her smile going ear to ear.
"Great! I'm so sorry about your ankle," She said, glancing down at Riley's boot.
"Yeah it's fine, at least it wasn't my hand you know,"
"Yeah, oh look I got you something!" She said, going over to her own backpack and taking out two oval cushion looking things. "They're for your crutches, they should help make them more comfortable until you can walk again."
Riley took them and looked at them for a second, before taking her crutches out from under her arms and balancing on her one foot. She put the padding on and smiled at Emma sweetly.
"Thank you Emma these are great,"
"No problem Harper, now who's this?" She asked, looking at me.
"Oh this is Alex, she's the new DA at the station,"
"Oh cool, I'm Emma!" And god how did they deal with her. Her personality was so...bubbly.
"Nice to meet you," I said, and Emma told us that the boys had already gotten us a table so we could grab some food before sound checks.
We walked over to where they were sitting, and Ant dorkishly waved at us. I smiled and we all sat down. They told us that because we were the band they'd be over to ask for our orders soon and that the food would be out as quickly as they could manage.
"I will give you ten bucks if Alex doesn't order a salad and then steal someone else's fries," Riley said, grinning at me before laughing at my death stare.
"Your on," Ant said, and I shook my head at him.
"Do you guys like...know each other?" Emma asked, confused. "I thought she just started working there?"
"Oh yeah we went to highschool together," Riley said, and Emma nodded as to say that made sense. The waiter came over and we made our orders, I got a water and salad and watched Riley grin. She ordered a root beer and a burger.
"Pay up Ant," She said, and Ant handed over ten dollars. I rolled my eyes at them.
"So what's the set list for tonight?"
"We have 6 songs we want to play and then Riley and Emma are gonna take some requests with her guitar before we do 5 more,"
"Okay cool, am I allowed to know what songs or is that too secret band info?"
"Yeah we have a paper with all the songs,"
"Dope!" Ant said, and I just say there. I only knew like a song. Did I have a bad taste in music? Probably not. Well...
"Alright here's your food," The waitress said, saving me from having to awkwardly explain I didn't know a song.
