The music feels like a heartbeat. Heavy bass thrums up through my feet and into my rib cage, I nearly drop my drink- I swear the plastic cup is getting heavier.
My eyelids droop, and the couch across the room looks heavenly. I take a step to make a beeline for it, but someone blocks my path and bumps the drink right out of my hand.
"Aw," I whine. "Man, what'd tequila ever do to you?" My words come out slurred and foreign to my own ears, hardly loud enough over the music. By some miracle, the person who knocked my drink down heard me, an apologetic smile on their face.
"Sorry! I- hey, you doin' okay?" they ask, voice suddenly gone softer and way harder to hear. Rough guitar riffs vibrate through my skull.
"Uh huh," I say. The world shifts- I stumble, smiling to myself.
