you broke me but it was beautiful

the memories shape me
like a careful creater
moulding, trimming, smoothing
and taking away
filling some cracks and making others

some changes were intangible
an abstract alteration of mind
or belief
likes and dislikes flew and swapped,
butterflies in reformative mist

you opened my eyes
and locked some doors
you showed me
how to carve a key out of myself.
I carry it everywhere.

when you love someone they become part of you
you experience together and you grow
blossom and decay
I'm a different person than before we
kissed and exchanged our hearts

now you're gone so am I
my new form carries herself more clumsily
and it stings more when she falls down
because you're not there to hold her -
but we're learning

and one day I'll wear my imperfections proudly
