"We need to get out of here. Like, now." Jet grabbed her accomplice's hand, yanking him towards the coat check. She had met the boy, Harry, barely a month ago. He was the heir to this huge tech company she was interning for over the summer. He was annoying, but smart. As smart as her, almost. And circumstances forced them together.

The blond boy was surprisingly silent as she threw his jacket at him, slinging her own over one shoulder before speeding out the doors and down the street. They made it three blocks before she stumbled in her heels and he hailed a cab. Once he rattled off her address, she let herself breathe, watching out the windows as they sped through the city.

"Jay— "

She shushed him, pinching the outer side of his thigh. It wasn't safe, wouldn't be safe until they were locked behind the half-dozen locks and heavy door of her apartment. This was such a shitty idea. She should've known that if she gave an inch, he'd take a mile.

She was out of the cab before it fully came to a stop, barreling through the lobby and towards the elevator. Harry barely made it inside before the doors shut. The boy pressed his thumb to the button for the top floor, waiting for a solid three seconds until the elevator started moving before stepping towards Jay.

"Care to explain what the fuck's going on?"

She blinked, leaning away from the suddenly too-close boy. "I . . . I just— we just needed to leave, okay?"

The doors opened with a ding. She kicked off her heels, making a beeline for the guest room. She slammed the door open, nearly crying in relief. Impossibly dark blue eyes blinked up at her, black hair falling in the boy's eyes.

"Jet?"

Harry's hand was on her shoulder and she managed a shaky smile as he spoke. "Sorry to wake you up, Max. You can go back to sleep."

Silently, the boy tugged the comforter further up, closing his eyes. She shut the door, letting Harry guide her to her bedroom. It was her mom's apartment, but she spent more time out of the country than in it nowadays. It worked out well enough for their purposes. If anyone saw Harry going in and out of the apartment, they just assumed he was her boyfriend or didn't care enough to say anything.

She watched Harry run through security measures, locking the doors remotely and turning on the security cameras inside the living room and kitchen. After everything, he sat next to her in her desk chair, watching her bury her face in a pillow.

"What the hell is going on, Julianna?"
