The doctor knew how to get under his skin, and that wasn't how Dipper played the game. The doctor was a cheat, and cheaters never win. If you play strategically, it works, anyone who's smart never plays entirely fair, but no one cheats.
"Dr. Southeast is currently with another patient. You'll have to wait a few minutes." The secretary told him, donning an absolute saccharine smile.
"Very well." Dipper gave her a tight-lipped smile, not at all genuine. He made his way over to the waiting area, and took a seat near the exit.
He also chose to sit facing all entryways. He made it a habit of his, paranoia may be part of it, however no psychiatrist had figured out about his paranoia.
It's not that Dipper believed that everyone was out to get him, it's just. . .well, he'd rather be prepared than caught off-guard.
Regardless, he was still caught off-guard when a particular girl waltzed into the room.
Pacifica.
Dipper stilled in his chair, tried to make sure she couldn't see him. It's not that he didn't want to see her, but he was still slightly on edge from a few nights ago.
Running into his psychiatrist in a public place was far from what he wanted, and if Dr. Preston Southeast saw him, and the people he was with, he was certain to make a comment on it.
That's exactly not what he needed.
However, luck was far from on his side, because the girl spotted him nearly immediately. The tell-tale sign was the huge grin splitting onto her face.
She flounced over to where he was sitting and plopped onto the vacant seat next to him. "Hey Dipper, fancy seeing you here!"
Dipper looked over at her, trying to hide his annoyance, which was surprisingly easy when she came around. He couldn't figure out anything about this girl. She changed how he felt just by showing up or staying away, the former being the best option even though it still made him wary, and the latter making him lonely.
Loneliness was far from a new concept to Dipper, he'd felt it for ages. Even when he was living with his family, they still treated him like an outsider. All except his sister.
His sister, Dr. Southeast had made the fatal mistake of bringing her up. He loved his sister more than life itself, even though he hadn't seen her in years.
Dipper always tried to get to see her, he tried getting into Gleeful Estate for years all led him down the path of disaster, pain, and a whole lot of yelling.
The guards of the manor never let him get within the radius of the estate. But, Preston's words echoed true in his brain.
His sister had tried to kill herself, it was a failed attempt, but the fact that she had tried, shattered Dipper. That was why he was more on edge than usual. He wouldn't admit it, if the doctor asked.
He would have to see her, there couldn't be too many hospitals in Reverse Falls, and (if he were lucky) she would be placed in psychiatric rehabilitation, and perhaps he'd get a chance to see her again.
"Uhm, Dipper? Are you okay? Your eyes are super glazed over. You're not dead, are ya?" Pacifica jerked him from his thoughts.
Dipper let out a light cough and blinked once or twice to remove said haziness. "I'm quite alright, I didn't mean to worry you."
