1. Stay as quiet as possible.
2. Be aware of your surroundings.
3. Evade other wolves.
4. Avoid pack territory at all costs.
5. Run before fighting.
6. KEEP MOVING.These rules had been drilled into Lucy's head since she was old enough to understand them. Some were simple to follow, Lucy had never been loud and was usually exceptionally attentive to her environment, it was just who she was. However, over the years she became tired of continuously roaming. She wanted to settle down somewhere, she couldn't think of a reason to keep her nomadic lifestyle. She found a nice area to settle down, it had everything she needed, which wasn't much considering Lucy mainly kept to her wolf form. She couldn't even remember the last time she shifted, she wasn't even sure if she had the ability to anymore. Not that she minded, her grasp on any sort of humanity she held was slipping. She continued to find it more difficult to care about things the more human part of her once did. Lucy wasn't stupid though, she knew to stay away from others and pack territories. She had seen the aftermath of a rogue trespassing on pack territory in her travels. Her main goal was still to survive. Despite her diligent efforts to survive, somethings will remain in the hands of fate.
Lucy was playing a game of cat and mouse with a particularly large rabbit. She was excited for the meal he would provide, it had been a little while since she had a sustainable meal. She could practically feel her teeth sinking into his neck and her claws ripping open his soft underbelly. Perhaps it was her growing hunger, or maybe it was just an off day for her, but she would not be successful in her endeavor. Prowling around the unsuspecting rabbit, which held her undivided attention, her paw found a particularly nasty coil spring trap. An ear piercing yelp escaped Lucy's mouth, not only scaring away her prey but alerting any lurking adversaries. Knowing she had to act fast Lucy pried the trap open enough to rip her limb out, causing a severe amount of damage. Hoping any other nearby predator would forgo pursuing Lucy would just be wishful thinking. She had enough experience to know if she didn't find a way out of the situation she was done for.
Her best bet now would to hide, she would try to run if necessary, but she didn't think she could put up much a fight. Her pain was immense and she had lost a large amount of blood. Unable to find a spot to hide, panic blossomed in her chest. She wildly, but as quiet as she could manage, sought a place to remain unnoticed. Hearing a soft placement of paws on the forrest floor, she knew she was out of time. With a last ditch effort, Lucy decided to run, being her best option. She spun around to dash in the opposite direction. Rogues leapt from the brush towards her. Giving a brief warning growl, Lucy took off, as fast as she could manage. Being as mindful as she could with her injury, she made quite a gain on the rogues. The unrelenting rogues wouldn't let her off though, they worked together to try and take her down. They seemed to spot the vulnerability in her defense because anytime they would get close to her they would aim harsh bites at her injured leg. Finally, one of them latched on and shook her leg. She yowled in pain but wrenched the leg from his grip. Losing her balance she fell a few feet away on the rough ground. She seemed to gain a small bout of luck though, the rogues, with a small bit of inspecting area abandoned her. Tucking tail and leaving her bleeding. This behavior worried Lucy, what would be so bad it would keep the rogues from pursuing her when she was injured and defenseless. And then all at once it hit her, she was on pack land, she could tell by the distinct smell of the area, similar to neutral, unowned parts of the forest with a tinge of something else, something sweeter. She tried desperately to will her injured leg to hold her weight but it had been too damaged. She was determined to make it out of pack territory before the warriors showed up to apprehend her, dragging her heavy body across the dense and thick foliage between the trees. Knowing there was no way she would make in time, she was left with only one option, fight. She would give it her all, even though she felt drained and needed medical attention desperately. Finally she heard the pounding of paws against the forest floor, headed straight for her. Contemplating her current situation she knew why she had ended up in this position. She had abandoned her rules, every single one of them. She knew they kept her safe, how could she have been so careless. She knew the pack would kill her, her mother told her as much. Packs were ruthless when it came to rogues, no matter she hadn't done anything deserving of the title, rogue, other than being born without a pack.
The warriors arrived in wolf form, they gathered around her. She let out a low growl in return, warning them to leave her alone. Her ears low, jutting out horizontally and she barred her teeth threateningly. One was brave enough to attempt to get closer to her, in which she immediately snapped her jaw at him, when he backed away she let out a furious, almost feral, snarl. They all shifted back into their human form, figuring it would be easier to show they only wanted to talk, but Lucy was having none of this. They demanded she shift as well, and even if she could, she wouldn't. Her human form was more vulnerable than her wolf. She could inflict more damage this way, and she would need any advantage she could get.
"Jesus, look at this one. A savage little beast." He spat in revulsion. Lucy found the strength to stand up, almost collapsing, but kept weight off her injured leg, being careful not to show her impairment. Her body took up a defensive position, ready to attack anyone audacious enough to come near her. Not waiting for them to get the upper hand, she launched herself at the nearest warrior without warning and catching them off guard. She went for the neck, the best way to keep an enemy down was to go for the kill. However, at the last moment he turned and she ended up sinking her teeth into his shoulder and whipping her head back and forth to inflict the worst damage. Not exactly what she was going for but she could work with it. Being mindful of the other warriors she attacked his limbs. Snatching his leg in her jaws and yanking as hard as she could, rendering him useless in a fight. Immobilizing him would help her in long run. She knew she was out numbered greatly and the Alpha would most likely be here soon, she had to be quick and smart about her next moves. Swiftly, she turned around in time to catch the next warrior jumping at him. They clashed in an abundance of teeth and flailing limbs. Momentarily forgetting her injury, she made yet another mistake and put her weight on it. The other wolves seized this opportunity and simultaneously pounced on her. Two holding the bottom half of her down, one purposefully grabbing at her wound with immense pressure, making her growl and try to lash out unsuccessfully. Another held down her torso, one held her muzzle, and the finale warrior was preparing for the kill, going straight for her throat. Lucy thrashed violently trying to get out of their hold and bit viciously at anything near her. The wolf wrapped his calloused hands around her neck preparing to snap it, she let out a snarl fighting to end.
Just before the warrior could end her life, a fierce roar could be heard. So loud it almost felt like the ground shook with its intensity. The attention from the warriors that was previously on her solely was now on whatever beast was headed towards them. She couldn't blame them, whatever it was had her attention now as well, she didn't know why but she was captivated by whoever this wolf was. She couldn't help but feel like he was important. He made his way through the brush at last, a cruel glare adorned his face, a strange juxtaposition to his obvious beauty. When their eyes met something unlocked in her brain, something she had long forgotten about. Something she remembered praying for when she was a child. She melted from her feral wolf form and her human self was revealed. Her black hair ratty and matted, she was in desperate need for a bath, but none of that mattered. She couldn't stop herself from rasping out her first word in what could have been years. One word that would change everything as she knew it.
"Mine."
