CHAPTER TWO

"We got it, we got it"Liana screamed out loud as I hurriedly matched over to her and looked at her laptop.
" You came third and I came fourth" She said while showing me our names on the laptop.
"That's amazing" feeling a lot relieved that we got accepted and I did a little prayer thanking God." How do we know when we are supposed to start?" I asked her knowing there must be more details about those who got the scholarship. I didn't know much about computer gadgets so I let Liana type in some things before she blew out a breath.
" We are expected to be there in a week's time" She said shutting down her laptop and sliding it into its bag.
". Oh that's amazing, we will get a lot of time to get ready and all the things we may need" i told her.
* Yes you are right, let's quickly lock up the shop and head home" She said standing up. I followed suit and after locking up, we made our way home. Liana's house was a few blocks away from mine, the reasons she doesn't wait up for me is because her dad usually drops her off at work.
" Sooo about the scholarship" I started walking down the street" Liana you know it's the school for the rich and it might not be like our school here" I was a little bit scared about moving into a school not only a school but a school for the rich. We might face problems, there's no doubt about that.
"Michelle, you worry too much, we are together and I know we must face some problems but that doesn't mean we should give up on our dreams right?" She asked while stretching her arms.
" Yes I guess you are right, we are together" I repeated her same words and decided to change the topic" I can't wait to tell mother the good news" I said smiling.
" Me neither" Liana replied
After a couple of minutes, we finally reach my destination and I bid Liana goodbye after an agreement that we will skip work tomorrow and she will come over so we can discuss more about the scholarship. I was overjoyed. Finally my dreams will eventually come true. I hope.
I unlocked the door and stepped into the house shutting it and walked towards the living room. I decided to make lunch before mum came back. I changed into something casual and started making the food after arranging the foodstuffs in their right places. After two hours am true with the dish and proud of myself, I decided to take a quick shower, after the shower I slumped down on the cushion in the living room turning on the TV and waiting patiently for mum. As soon as I was engrossed in watching the TV, I heard a knock on the door. That must be mum. I stood up and headed for the door only to be met with a box. I looked around to see if anyone was standing outside but I didn't see no one. I took the box inside and it was inscribed on the box FOR MICHELLE RILEY. I opened it only to be met with a letter.i slowly sat down and began reading it.
      Dear Michelle Riley, congratulations, we are happy to announce to you that you are among those who got the scholarship for the most prestigious highschool in these town precisely in these country. You are expected to be in the school by next week maximum. All other details will be told to you as soon as you reach the school. Once again congratulations.

I couldn't believe my ears once again, as if I hadn't been told before. I was anticipating how to tell mum about it but now all I have to do is show her this letter. As if on cue mum entered the house just that minute and I didn't even realise I was smiling until she spoke" What's the reason behind that smile of yours?" She asked. I snapped out of it and headed to meet her greeting her and taking her bag into the room.
" Mum, you go freshen up, I made pasta" I told her " Meanwhile I will set up the table and of course yes" I smiled" I will tell you the reason behind these" I said pointing at my mouth.
She nodded and headed to her room and I arranged the table, she came down quickly and we started eating quietly, after we were through I cleared the plates and went to meet her in the living room. I saw her leaning her head on the cushion and I knew she was tired but I still have to tell her the good news. I brought out the letter and sat beside her, she looked at me without saying anything.
" Mum, please read this" I said handing over the letter to her. She gently took it and started reading it, slowly I see her lips curved into a smile and I felt myself being tightly embraced by her.
" O my darling daughter, am so proud of you" Letting me go from the tight crushing hug" At last you made it, wow Michelle, you really made me proud" I smiled at her words" i wouldn't have made it if it was not for you" I said picking up the letter and folding it up gently.
"Liana also got the scholarship" I told her. She stood up grinning widely" That's another great news, you won't be there all by yourself" I nodded.
" I will get you all the things you need before next week, I promise and you should also pack the relevant things" She told me while heading towards her room. I smiled and nodded my head once again. She was about going in when she turned and looked at me" For making me proud, am getting you a phone" she turned and looked her door.
I didn't quite understand. Did mum just say she will get me a phone. No I must be dreaming or hallucinating. But she just said it, I can't believe this, am actually getting a phone. I quickly went into my room to start packing whole singing melodiously.
Two weeks went by in a blur and before I knew it, we were bidding farewell to everyone. Mum finally got me the phone as promised and it was just like Liana's. I was happy, we bid farewell to both our teachers as well as friends, classmates, and especially to the man who told us about the scholarship.We also had to quit our job at McDonald's and the boss was quite unhappy but he wished us good luck in all our endeavours. Some people were happy while others were jealous but we didn't mind, that's their problem. We are currently sitting in the bus that will take us to Harvard high school. Well that's the name of the school. I remembered mum crying and telling me to take care and make her proud. I remember hugging her and telling her I will miss her and I also had her number so I could call her anytime. I glanced over at liana and saw her already dozing off. I smiled to no one in particular and then the driver asked" anyone dropping at Harvard?
I immediately said yes and woke up Liana. People were giving us strange looks as we took our belongings from the bus and I didn't fail to hear some of them.
Can you believe these girls? Harvard is for the rich not for someone like them.
These girls are sure funny. Maybe they dont know where they are going.
They continued whispering and pointing at us and I noticed Liana was also hearing them. Knowing my best friend, I trust her to walk over there and give them a piece of her mind and she was about doing just that when I grabbed her wrist.
"Liana just let them be" I pleaded with her" we don't want to get into any troubles ok? Anyways who cares what they think" I told her grabbing her hand and headed to the school. It was there written in bold. WELCOME TO HARVARD HIGH SCHOOL. I instantly swallowed holding Liana's hand tightly and I looked at her" Are you ready Liana" I asked her.
She nodded and said" Never been more ready" and with those words coming out from her, I knew it was time to fulfill all our wishes and dreams and make our parents proud of who we shall become. I smiled picking up my luggage with Liana following beside me and I thought. Get ready Harvard.these is time for war. I smiled again while giggling a little bit.
